Have not play the game yet, was wondering if the GHQ 1:2400 minis would work. They have a pretty good selection and the quality is simply amazing.

I can't imagine a reason that you couldn't use any miniatures. What's the concern?

The map board and markers aren't much to speak of. It's just a pattern of off-set squares.

Certainly you could do this but I'd question why you would want to. The GHQ minis are nice and pretty detailed but they are unpainted and relatively expensive. While A&A naval minis are collectable and you have to deal with that aspect of it, in the long run buying what you want off ebay and online stores that sell singles will be cheaper than buying the GHQ minis. While the big rare ships will be more expensive in A&A minis the cheapest GHQ minis are in the $7-$8 range even for something like torpedo boats which you can gets for pennies in an A&A mini.

Here's a nice comparison figure of minis at different scales from different companies. You can get a feel for the size and quality of the sculpts. A&A minis are too bad when compared to the likes of GHQ.

This game is playable with any type of miniature, even paper cut-outs if you wish. The rules themselves are available on line at the Wizards of the Coast web-site, and the fan message boards @ aaminis.myfastforum.org have scans of all the WAS cards currenty available, so that you'll know the stats of those ships you are buying from GHQ or where ever.
