I have played several games where a player gets a space-jump because of an encounter in the first few turns of the game (at least a couple times in the very first turn!)

The player whom this happens to seems have a huge advantage, and often wins. Having an entire section of space to explore all to yourself without other players around is just huge!

Does anyone have an idea on how to limit this, while still keeping the space-jump a good thing to have? Thanks!

The simplest fix for this would be to shuffle that encounter card into the lower half of the encounter deck. (Or lower 2/3rds or whatever).

Another method I came up with a while ago, (but have not had the opportunity to test in an actual gameplay): Limit the Space Jump to a particular range, say 5 hexes beyond the furtherest explored planet.

Even if the Space Jump encounter does come up really early in the game, none of the players will have had the chance to explore very far along the length of the board.
