This has got to be a gag. Someone has hacked Bohrer's account. I refuse to believe that Bohrer/Winsome is that nasty.

And yes, I read http://www.boardgamenews.com/index.php/boardgamenews/comment...

Shouldn't the title be "Age of Scheming"? It doesn't make any sense as "Age of Scheme". Did nobody proof read the front cover? wow

I know it. Petty too. Unfortunately, my attempts at being arch didn't come across too well over the internet.

Re: Demo at the Hotel Jung, Tuesday 8pm
I'm staying at the Arosa during the Essen messe this year. Which I believe mr. John Bohrer is too. I was looking forward to playing with other people during the evening, and if Arosa doesn't have the fascilities, I was considering the Jung, which is just across the street.

Even though it might hit me in the neck, I can't help hoping someone will complain about "outsiders" taking up all the table space at the Jung, and that the hotel staff will show Bohrer the door.

That would only be fitting.

Well, the two hotels are owned by the same management, so John will not be a complete outsider. However, I don't think Martin will be pleased - which is probably why John is doing it.

Last year John actually stayed at the Jung in his usual room 12, when I arrived Tuesday. But suddenly moved over to Arosa the day after. Not sure why, but the Warfrogs moved in the night before...

Re: Play the game at the Hotel Jung, Tuesday 8pm
Unfortunately the Hotel Jung did not take kindly to the news of an open invite to the public. At this point in time they have decided to close the breakfast room for the entire period of the Essen show. This will affect both visitors and residents.

If you were planning on attending the demo of 'Age of Scheme' then I would suggest to contact John Bohrer to ask where the alternative venue will be.

Well, I guess it won't matter much to me anyway.
Last year the place was so crowded, that we had to play on the floor in my room. shake

Not when someone makes them think that folks will be picketing outside the Hotel, Martin.

My email exchange with the Jung:

>Dear Mr. Bohrer,
>today we saw your statement on your website
>www.boardgamegeek.com and we saw that you will organize a demo in front
>of or in the Hotel Jung against the playing people in our breakfast room.

I am afraid that you are mis-informed.
A "demo" is a play of a board game.
A number of our customer staying in the Jung asked me to show them our new
game "Age of Scheme" and my only free time is Tuesday night.
We often play ("demo") boardgames in the breakfast room, we have done so
for years now.

>>We can understand that you are introuble with Mr. Wallace
>but we can´t accept this reaction and we don´t allowed you to
>demonstrate in our House.

As I said, you are mistaken. There is no demonstration, only a play of a
boardgame, requested by our customers staying at the Jung.

>Also we offer you to cancel your statement on your website. With kind
>regards AROSA HOTEL ESSEN Hotel-Manager

I have altered my statement so that you may better understand it. Some
English words have many meanings, like the German word "zug".

I enjoy staying in the Jung and have for many years now. See you soon.

All the best,
John Bohrer

******************

I suggest that people wishing to play (demo) the game on Tuesday night do not bring picket signs! Ask the desk to ring my room at the Jung, we can play there, if Martin persists in misleading the hotel about what a game "demo" is and keeps the breakfast room closed.

Re: Play the game at the Hotel Jung, Tuesday 8pm
John, you posted a message on a public forum giving the idea that anybody could turn up to the Jung. If it was a private demonstration why did you post the date, time, and venue on BGG? Your original post has led to this problem, not my misleading the Jung. It would be nice if you could clear this mess up so that Essen is not spoiled for the rest of us.

I don't understand.

It seems obvious a non-native English speaker misunderstood what demo meant.

Are you saying that MW told you to use the word demo in your post or that the hotel asked MW what demo meant and he mislead them about what demo means in this context?

If the latter, do you have any evidence of that or is it just paranoid speculation being presented as fact in a public forum?

Re: Play the game at the Hotel Jung, Tuesday 8pm
This is all so fucking ridiculous. This whole affair may be the stupidest thing I've ever witnessed since I started coming to this site in 2003. Even dumber than shillking, Barnes, Weeks, Hirtle, and the myriad of other teapot-sized tempests that have brewed up around here in the past. I've been reading all of these threads with an initial feeling of curiousity and bemusement, but now it's just getting tiresome and old and increasingly pathetic. I don't think the continuing of this saga puts any of the parties, their various supporters and detractors, nor BGG itself in a particularly good light. Could you guys grow up and act like freaking adults, or at least take your feud off-site? Damn.

What.the.f-ck?

Board Game News wrote:

“We will be running a demo session for interested folks Tuesday night before the fair, at 8pm in the breakfast room of the Hotel Jung,” says Bohrer.

Now what is this, except a public invitation to a demo session? I can assure you, mr Bohrer, that although I pride myself with being pretty fluid in English, my sole interpretation of this was "anyone who wants to see the game can come at the time and place allocated". My first reaction was "wow, it's gonna be crowded." This is certainly NOT just some German misinterpreting an English word.

To insinuate that it was mr Wallace who duped the hotel into thinking you were doing a public invitation when you yourself had left that statement on Board Game News… Jeez, mr Bohrer, what the hell…?

A friend of mine used to work demo. You take a wrecking bar and bash everything and pull it apart. It's a lot of fun, but it hard work and a little bit dangerous.
