Being a geek is better than being a nerd. Nerd suggests uncool while geek implies shy genius.

The definitions I use:

Nerd - intelligent but socially awkward
Dork - socially awkward without the benefit of being intelligent
Geek - passionate about a hobby

So a nerd can be a geek (and generally they are), but a geek doesn't have to be a nerd. Same goes for dork.

What about the sportos, the motorheads, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads?

You've already discussed the geeks.

Shy genius? To steal a line from the song Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, "I ain't good looking but ya know I ain't shy..."

I'm sure, as hell, no genius, either. Maybe I'm not a geek. Maybe I don't belong here. Diane, once again, you've shaken my self-image.

Geek actually entered the french common language and its meaning in french is roughly equivalent to what you define as a nerd, although some employ it to say "dork". In any ways, it is most of the time not positive to be called a "geek" by a french person

Just ask yourself - "What would Fred Astaire say?"

Gaming, I love Gaming,
All my friends think I'm some kind of nerdy freak;
But I seem to find the happiness I seek
When I'm on Chit Chat hanging out with Geeks.

Boardgames, I love Boardgames,
And my social skills might be considered weak,
But my life in general doesn't seem so bleak
When I'm here on Chit Chat, hanging out with Geeks.
