I played the Ninja Variant with my son today and it made Candyland slightly tolerable.

After we picked our initial colors, we each picked one of the 2 remaining meeples to be the ninja. (I had a green player piece and a red Ninja, he had a yellow playing piece and a blue ninja)

Next, I shuffled the cards and we each picked a secret "ninja card" from the deck. ninja

Then we play Candyland normally, but when the opponent lands on a space that is the same color as your secret ninja card, reveal your ninja card and then your ninja attacks.

Ninja Attack: place the ninja meeple on the board, 10 spaces away from the target if the adult is attacking and 3 spaces away if the kid is attacking. Flick the ninja towards the target meeple (flick with your fingers like in Crokinole). If the target meeple is knocked over, it has to go back 10 spaces.

After the ninja attack, discard your secret ninja card and pick a new secret ninja card.

If the secret ninja card you picked is 2 blue or 2 green, etc. ignore the "2" and just note the color.

If the secret ninja card you pick is a special card (i.e. Peanut, Gumdrop, Candy Cane, etc.) then you can Ninja Attack at any time. ninja

Nice. Might want to ditch the game and just do the flicking.

No, but now that you mention it, maybe I'll put some thought into it. ninja

I'll have to try this with my daughter... assuming we can ever find the blue guy. She may not be interested in the "Ninja" theme, but I'm sure the act of attacking the other guy will make it entertaining.

Instead of a Ninja, how about a Dentist?

I like it! Fits with the theme.

Only problem is this might reinforce a kid's fear of going to the Dentist. cry

Actually, he went to Ninja Camp this summer. It was a one day crash course in all things Ninja for 3 to 5 year olds.

He is fully adept in the way of the ninja. ninja
