I received a package today, from the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). It was shipped with a return address in New York, postage out of Philadelphia and a Customs form! Yes, that's right, a US Post official Customs form plastered to the front of the box, and all nicely filled out too, just so it could travel from New York to Minnesota. I guess they're really cracking down at the Minnesota border!

So which of those States isn't in the US again? shake

Well, I know that it is illegal to cross Minnesota state lines with a duck on your head.

Was there a duck and/or head involved with this package?

No, and unfortunately I didn't see it arrive, but I don't think it was carried in by a duck either.

Inside the box was a Turing mug (the ACM anniversary mug that has a picture of Alan Turing). Nothing duck-related there either, sorry. Oh wait -- there's a headshot of Turing on the front of the mug:

I think that hairpiece plastered to his head could be mistaken for a dead duck.

You didn't hear that the Vikings decided they wanted to join the CFL?

When they found out that the C stood for Canadian, they pressured the governor into seceding in order to become Canada's eleventh province, which happened last year.

I thought they'd've let you know by now.

I also hear they've officially changed the name from Minnesota to 'South Manitoba'.

You forgot that all mugs are now made in China, right?

You must have received it directly from the sweatshop manufacturer!

Ah, that explains why it was stamped ChinaP.U. on the bottom. I wondered what the P.U. stood for, now I know! gulp

Reminds me of years ago when I got a letter returned for not having international postage on it. I sent it from California to New Mexico.

I think its b/c Minnesota doesn't have the typical two party system---you have the DFL (Democratic Farmer Labor Party). Just a bit too out there....so customs required!

Exactly! And that party consists entirely of Norwegian Bachelor Farmers.

I've been on this site for 15 years now, and I'm far from sick of games, but I think I prefer a better balance of favorites to new games. I'm also tired of playing 4+ hr multiplayer games, but I'll still happily play really long games 2 player.

My "Mythbusters" moment for today.

Minnesota has always had a much larger population of German immigrants than any other ethic group.

It's just that a couple of World Wars resulted in them being substantially quieter about their heritage than the Scandinavians.
