The BBC series is far better than the excellent NBC one. Now go watch it.

Is it worth upgrading the original game with the new one for $50?

What are the differences between the two? Are the components upgraded at all?

So apart from some rule changes everything in the box is the same?

Nope. The old Hull Stabilizer modules are changed for cargo bays. Ship control sheet has a limit of 4 OOC (as oposed to 6). I don't know other relevant differences.

Cheers,

I think that if you can afford to spend 50 bucks it is well worth the upgrade. Mostly because you get more modules (which come in handy when having big ships or missions involving lots of ship combat. Also you get new boards to keep track of ships power and OOC, etc.. You also gain more guys to use during missions in case everyone wants to be a Human or something.

However, if you can't afforded it I would recommend at the least picking up the revised Book which can be found separately.

If they reduced the overall amount of OOC, why was that not included in the list of changes?

OOC was reduced from 6 to 4. This was done because at -6 to moves and actions players were just passing phases until the OOC got to managable levels. Now with OOC 4, it becomes a 3 in the next phase and you can still take a move and action without being totally hosed.

I recommend the box set for people wanting more modules. If you don't want more modules, just get the new rulebook. You old ship sheet will still work if you just "X" out the 5 and 6 OOC.
