Remember when Henry Fonda shocked all by being the brutal villain in Once Upon a Time in the West? Well, I didn't--I was still an egg in waiting in my mom's right ovary at that point.

Anyways, it was a pretty big deal that he was playing a villain. I mean, this was Juror #8 for god's sake.

I think Tom Hanks is way overdue for this. Think about it--well-loved actor without a single villain role to his credit (save for one in The Two Gentlemen of Verona, but Shakespeare doesn't count). He should do this before that third chin grows in.

He played a shady character in one movie, but I can't think of the name of it. He had long hair, I think. He wasn't a true villain, I guess, and he was still basically the protagonist.

So, ummm.... yes, I agree. He should do that.

I think Tom Hanks was kind of a bad guy in "Road to Perdition" if I'm remembering correctly.

More anti-hero than anything. He was still the protagonist. I'd rather see him in some sort of devoid-of-morals evil SOB kinda role. Sure, he was a hitman at the beginning of Road to Perdition, and he told the world's greatest knock knock joke in Catch Me If You Can, but Henry Fonda shot a kid in the face.

Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. He plays a hitman. No long hair though. And, he still comes across as a nice guy, as I recall.

I filched the summary from IMDB, and paraphrased a bit:

Mike Sullivan [Tom Hanks] works as a hit man for crime boss John Rooney [Paul Newman]. He views Rooney as a father figure. However, after Sullivan's son is witness to a killing, Sullivan finds himself on the run trying to save the life of his son, and seeking revenge on those who wronged him. Jude Law co-stars as a hit man hired to kill Sullivan.

How about a Batman villain? Clayface hasn't been done yet. It would have a ring of truth to it, as the character is an actor before he gets transformed into the blob man.

That wouldn't satisfy you, I imagine, becuase Tom Hanks himself would then only be in the first half of the movie. When he gets evil, it would have to be CGI.

Remember in S.O.B. when Julie Andrews shocked the world by taking her top off? I think it's time I'd like to see ... umm ...

Actually I can't think of a current actress that would shock me. Nevermind.

I think the long-haired one was The Ladykillers (remake of an old Alec Guiness movie, I think).
"An eccentric, if not charming Southern professor and his crew pose as a band in order to rob a casino, all under the nose of his unsuspecting landlord: a sharp old woman."

Indeed, if Tom Hanks ripped of Julie Andrews' top, I would be shocked.

I think he is a very good villain in that movie.

He is a professional killer: professional in all ways. Those are the scariest killers.

Hanks played kind of an anti-hero in A League of Their Own. Very much against type and I always felt he was wrong for that role. Actually, kind of a strange character, which I thought detracted from the movie.
