9/21/08 - Fourth Session - 4 hours of play - From Summer 1778 thru Winter 1779

The French have arrived! As expected, the French decided to join the conflict in Summer 1778. They have decided that they can best serve the cause by keeping the French fleet and ground forces in the West Indies, forcing the British to match them ASAP.

New England - The only sizable British forces in America are now in the New England area. The Brits are consolidating forces to prevent the colonials from picking off any small detachments. At this point, the British absolutely cannot afford to take losses. The Americans are regrouping in the Middle States area, suffered Winter Attrition, and have decided not (yet) to challenge the Brits in New England. A few BR strength points had to be sent to the West Indies because the Brit forces in the South were insufficient to match the French buildup.

Middle States - Has become a staging area for the Continentals. There are British Regulars in New York, and Tory Militia in the area around Philadelphia. Just waiting for the Continentals to get up the nerve to storm New York, and then clean out the entire New England strategic area. Just a matter of time, I think.

South Central - Fairly quiet. The Brits have been driven out. Has become a war between the colonials. Tories make a nuisance of themselves as much as possible. Rebel forces simply shift south or north, as needed.

Deep South - The only remaining British forces had to evacuate to match the French buildup in the West Indies. The area is now completely devoid of British regulars. It's now also a war between the colonials.

Overall - Looking totally grim for the British. Still not a single strategic area controlled, and not enough strategic towns to meet the 1779 year end victory conditions. It looks like the Americans will have their independence sooner than expected. The British refuse to concede, and the war will continue at very next opportunity we can get all four of us in the same room.

(will continue this session report as the campaign game progresses)
