I am still confused after re-reading the rules on whole money/food relationship. If you don't have any food at the end of round but you do have money, can you spend your money to buy food or not?? If not, then you have to take a loan and then you use the 4 francs from the loan to buy the necessary amount of food at 1F/food? Seems strange if you couldn't do that before the loan....please explain.

If they are truly interchangeable, then why do some of the building entry costs have 2food/1franc? That just confuses it more.

Thanks for the help.J

Whenever you have to pay food you can instead pay money.

Whenever you have to pay money, you cannot pay food.

Where a building entry cost is 2 food / 1F, then you pay one or the other.

Ooh a little higher, now a bit to the left, a little more, a little more, just a bit more. Oooh yes, that's the spot!

They are not truly interchangeable. Money can be used for food. Food cannot be used for money.

The way I worded it while teaching:
If you want a cheeseburger, I can give you a dollar and tell you to buy your own cheeseburger, if you want a dollar, I can't give you a cheeseburger instead.

It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage.

Misquoting slightly...

Do you know what they call a cheeseburger in Le Havre? A Royale with cheese.
What do they call a Big Mac?
A Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it "Le Big Mac".

That's just how it works in my house.

"Dad, you forgot to get bread last night, and now I can't make lunch for school" (not enough food to feed workers)

"Okay, here is 2 bucks, buy a hot lunch" (use francs one for one to "buy" food)
