Anyone heard any news from Hippodice competition yet? I submitted the rules and pictures of my games before the deadline, but I haven't heard anything from them yet...

I was just wondering if someone might have got some response already?

I haven't heard anything yet either. It's getting pretty late, but I'm sure they'll allow the appropriate time for international prototypes to be shipped.

I think you will receive an answer at the end of this month. So don't worry.

From the Hippodice homepage:

"Applications for this year's competition, the Competition 2009, must be received by the organizers by November 1st 2008 at the latest. Then, after checking the descriptions and rules very carefully, an appropriate number of games will be requested from the authors to be submitted. The requested prototypes must be received by the organizers by December 1st, 2008 at the latest. Any prototypes received after this date will remain with the organizers until next year's competition."

There really is no change to send a prototype in time (from Canada at least), if we would get the request to submit the game at the end of the this month...

I really hope that they give more time for international submittions!

I just received word that my entry didn't make the cut for playtesting. It would have been nice to have gotten some slightly more specific feedback, but it's pretty understandable, with 150 submissions and only a couple of people reading the rulebooks.

Good luck to everyone else who entered!

Best,

-Jeff

I just heard back too.
Of the two submissions; One thumbs down, one thumbs up! W00t
To be fair we are a team of two designers.

The submission date for prototypes is Dec 8th, so they have allowed an extra week.

Good luck to all who have not heard yet...

The Hippodice 2009 Results have been announced.

Here is a link...

Unfortunately, our game that made it to the play test phase did not get any further recognition.

What types of games do they normally like?

Looking at past winners there seems ot be a pretty low hit rate for succesful commercialization.

It's hard to tell because the publishers will likely change the name if it gets published. Because it can be so long (months or years after Hippodice) before a game is published, it's hard to track. I'm not sure if anyone tracks it anywhere...
