Klaus Ottmaier from Argentum has said that the only change to the rules for 2 players is that you leave out one more column than in the 3 player game - thus leaving out a total of 2 columns. That's all.

Reviving this old thread...

Yes, it works just fine! You lose some of the 3-player game theory mechanics, but that's true for most games. It is not as simple of a game as it looks and I quite a bi of fun to play.
