Our new wolf played his first game back in June of 2007 and is one of the nicest players I have had the privilege of playing with. Meet your new wolf of the week, simply4est!

Some bio stuff:

I was born in Florida, but came to Texas when I was 5 and have been here ever since, mostly in Houston. I apparently made sure my parents never had any more children. I like animals but dogs especially so I had two german shepherds who loved to walk me around the neighborhood. I became a Christian when I was 9, but while I always maintained my basic faith, I drifted somewhat during my teen years, then became more serious about it when I was 19. Of course I've also experienced some drifts since then, but overall my faith has maintained an important place in my life.

I've always liked computers, games obviously, animals, root beer, just all the good stuff that Snoopy would like. I don't get time to read as much as I used to, but I used to like a lot of sci-fi, speculative fiction, and military history. For movies, I like action, SciFi, comedies, and good animated ones with the kids. I read superhero comics a lot as a kid, but now I just have a few graphic novels like Kingdom Come (JLA) and Born Again (Daredevil). I don't like much TV, but in recent years we've watched 24, The Office, The Apprentice, and a few others. I haven't gotten to see Heroes on regular TV, but slowly I've been catching up with it online and love it.

I met my wife Aileen online while she was still in her native Nairobi, Kenya. We got to know each other for some months online, then she came to visit me. She decided to stay and a few months later we got married. We have two kids - 5 yo Katriel and 2 yo Gabriel. We've liked the homeschooling idea, but also wanted our kids to have some regular social interaction with other kids. Fortunately we found a nearby school that uses a relatively new UMS (university model system) approach where the kids go to classes two or three days a week and homeschool the others following the teachers' plans. Katriel started 1st grade there in August and loves it so far.

Some game stuff:

As a child, I played the usual suspects with my parents - Monopoly, Scrabble, etc. Later I got into Chess, Risk, and then into wargames which became my main games for a long time and still are somewhat now. Now I also like the newer types of games out - some Euros, newer AT's as well as newer types of wargames and abstracts. My favorite Chess variant right now is Omega Chess. Some of my all-time favorite games are Acquire, Titan, 1776, The Russian Campaign, Diplomacy, Napoleon's Triumph, Fortress America, Blood Feud: New York, and many others.

I came across BGG I think around 2004 while researching some of these new types of games. I didn't really do much more with BGG than that until last year when I started checking out the forums, Geeklists, etc. About midway through last year I discovered the Werewolf games here. I love the variety of themes, the different mechanics and rulesets available, and of course the people here.

The 2 truths and a lie:

Well, I thought of lots of stuff, so I thought I'd make the game more interesting. Here are 8 truths and 2 lies.

1. In the middle of the night (as I recall around 1 or 2 AM), I finally found Batman on a garage rooftop. When he realized I spotted him, he fled. So, yup, I scared off Batman.

2. My fingerprints were in the criminal database of a large law enforcement agency, and that database identified me as a capital murderer (maybe why Batman was scared to face me?).

3. I once was dating two girls at the same time who lived in the same apartment complex - actually just down the hall from each other. One night I had dates with both - one up 'til midnight and the other starting at midnight. So at midnight I left one and just walked down the hallway to the next one, marvelling to myself at the convenience of this arrangement...

4. When I used to work downtown, for a while I parked a long ways from my workplace and I also carried a large lunchbox about the size of Herman Munster's. There was a stretch of the long walk out to my car every evening where some beggars would always be coming up asking for this or that - the persistent kind that follow you for half a block or so. One time I was in a really bad mood for some reason, and when one of the beggars kept bugging me I finally stopped and raised my hand at him to tell him to get lost. Suddenly he raced off. Then I realized the hand I raised was holding my lunchbox which he probably thought I was going to hit him with.

5. When I was a site supervisor at another job, I was getting ready to fire someone for a number of reasons. I mentioned this to the company director and he said he wanted to go along with me to confront the employee because he had also been a problem on another site. When we went together to catch the employee getting off work, and the employee realized what was about to happen, he starts backing up, shaking his head and saying, "Y'all can't fire me if I don't hear it. Christmas is coming and I got kids". Then he literally ran away from us. We watched him run out the door past the parking lot (his car was right there in the parking lot), and on down the street. Well, we kept trying to catch him a few more times but he kept dodging us while still showing up for his work shifts. Then we noticed he was doing a better job than he ever did before so we didn't seriously try to catch him again until after the holidays that year.

6. My name - Forest - is also my dad's name and one of my uncle's name and the name of two of my cousins. Before that worlds-best-named-movie came out, the only other person I came across with my name was a waitress. She had come to our (friends and I) table to get our order. One of my friends asked me something "..., Forest?" and both the waitress and I replied "huh?" at the same time and then looked at each other in bewilderment.

7. I had a friend who was in a musical about girl groups from the 60's - I think it was called "Beehive". She invited me :cough: set me up :cough: to the show one night, then proceeded with her ambush by calling me up on stage to dance with them for a song. Later during the intermission people came up to me out in the hall and said they thought I was a regular performer - the 'comic relief'.

8. Back in grade school a friend and I were ditching a class one day. After we got a ways clear from the school grounds, we heard a helicopter overhead that seemed to be closing on us. We panicked, "They're after us!" and ran back to the school only to find that of course no one even knew we were gone.

9. I once had an all too brief job that paid me $12 each time to escort only the attractive female employees out to their cars.

10. A good werewolf related one: I was managing one site where I had a young and easily frightened employee working a nightshift at a building that was being renovated from its former use as an insane asylum. There were still psychotic paintings left in the lunchroom and various eerie sounds that actually came from animals that had taken up residency during the time it was an abandoned building. When Halloween night rolled around, he called me around midnight to tell me he was hearing howling sounds outside that sounded like werewolves.. Now at that time our company was also contracting services to the local Hooters and of course all of our younger male employees wanted to catch all the shifts there they could (this particular employee had come in one day with a big smile on his face and showed me a number he had gotten the night before from a Hooters waitress - six digits...). So I told him, 'If you want to see any more Hooters shifts, you best have those werewolves @$$es kicked off my site before I come in the morning'.

Hmmm... my daughter loves these so I should consult her... I'd say either Pocahontas or Jasmine.

We did a lot of both this year. The online stuff has really given me an opportunity to mess with my wife as the stuff I ordered came really fast, but these new boots she's ordered for me haven't gotten here for weeks yet so far. I even got one email from Amazon saying they were shipping an order of mine the next Monday, then it arrived the Friday before that next Monday..

Grat's forest!

Hmmm... and now for a non-standard question:

I have been invited to a party being held by esteemed Cardinal Wolsey and have been requested to venture a speech. Lady Walsingham shalle be in attendance and I hath prepared a jest; A man, upon perceiving of an inn, did decide to venture forth and order, for the cessation of a thirst, a pint of the landlord's finest ale. Upon the initial exchange of pleasantries, the man, enquired;"Who would fardels bear those ills we have, the pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay, the law's delay, there's the respect that we know not of?" Upon which the landlord, being of a sanguine disposition replied "To die, to say we end the heart-ache and the insolence doth make cowards of great pith a bare bodkin. Who would bear, to grunt and arrows of office, for who would bear those bourn no traveller returns, and thus the unworthy take arms against a sea of time, than fly to others that the proud man's consummation devoutly to others." Dost thou thinke it be perchance too bawdy a jape?

Well, it depends. Does this Lady Walsingham have her own fansite? Is she another Disney girl or Mickey Mouseketeer gone bad? Or on the other hand is she an alias for Sarah Palin or Jan Coulter? It just all depends..

Well, either you didn't see Batman [which I lean towards, he's got some mad stealth skills, in addition to being a comic book character, or the criminal finger prints is wrong [no one scares off Batman, he may have been letting himself be seen as a warning..]

Also having two girlfriends who live in the same apartment building only happens in sitcoms. Obviously the second lie.

A worthy choice Selena, Good job!

If you had super powers what would you want them to be?

Some real life people have appeared in comics..

Is that why as soon as he saw me, he looked as if someone caught him by surprise and fled as fast as could? I didn't see him stop to flex his muscles or give me a cold hard stare or anything...

Valkerie32 wrote:

I used to think that too before I was enlightened... Think about it, saves on travel time, gas...

Valkerie32 wrote:

I think I'd like a combination of powers that complimented each other well, but if I were to pick a single power, probably mind control. Some combinations I might like would be super strength with super speed or super agility, a melee power with regeneration (sort of like Wolverine), or maybe a good rangestriking power along with a force field.

Okay, I haven't read your 75 truths and 11teen lies yet, but I got the bio so I can totally ask some stuff.

I've been informally incorporated into a Buddah alliance by you after my seer d1 claim game. When do I start getting the newsletter?

Where are you watching season 1 of Heroes online?

Do you only play WW games now where you get to be a beloved holiday hero (with threat of exploding sleigh)?

If you were a ninja (assuming you aren't) what kind of food would you be?

What is your favorite game that I own?

When are you coming over to play?

There may be more of these coming when it isn't nearly 5am.

SIMPLY CONGRATS!

My Netflix subscription allows unlimited viewing and they have all the Heroes episodes (except the unaired pilot) available to Watch Now.

Yep, only ones where I get to be Santa (and the exploding sleigh thing... I loved that death write up!)

Fried hollerpenos - the food that bites back!

My phone's ring tone - it's sort of like a gangster movie soundtrack.

Valkerie32 wrote:

Last night's Monday Night Football where Houston beat Jacksonville !!

Valkerie32 wrote:
Your dream vacation?

One where time is not a concern so I can spend as much time as I want whereever I'm going.

Valkerie32 wrote:
Worst injury you've ever had?

Well I broke the same collarbone three different times, but those were all when I was a kid so I could take the time to recuperate fully. But when I tore something in my knee as an adult, I had to keep working at that time and couldn't risk being out for a medical problem. So being that I had to frequently go up and down stairs there, I'd say the lesser knee injury turned out to be the worst.

innie

"Do Hard Things" - it's really aimed at kids, so I was reading it for parenting insight, but I found it a good inspirational type of read anyway.

No.

Electric Blue.

I was more of an air drummer...

Valkerie32 wrote:

Probably tornado watching - when I was driving along a highway one time there was a tornado in the distance moving parallel (but in the opposite direction!). While I was wanting to "get the heck out of Dodge" as fast as I could, I was fascinated and had a hard time taking my eyes off the tornado.

Valkerie32 wrote:
How do you eat your Oreos?

The correct way - I first separate the cookie parts from each other in one smooth motion, then I lick the filling from each cookie with one smooth motion, then I eat the cookie parts with a lot of non-smooth motions.

I don't remember anything like that.

Bowie knife with fishing line in handle - for food, cutting, etc

Safety light - hand crankable - or perhaps some other device that can be powered like that - I'm not sure what all is available now.

A hand axe - axe on one side, hammer on the other - cutting and bashing.

Maybe something handy to contain water in - a pan or something.

Matches for easier firebuilding.

Forgiveness - life's way too short. Besides if you start out with forgiveness, they'll never see the revenge coming laugh

What has been your favorite game of Werewolf so far?

Why, the one with the Super Major Victory by the Buddha Bros (and Buddha Babe Cindy) of course. Well that was my favorite outcome anyway. Some of my other favorites have been Kima's 1st Champions game, Beowulf's Memento game, Redhawke's 1st Redwall game, Kristie's Bourne game, Jmilum's 2007 Halloween game, etc.

Tell me something trivial that happened to you that really made you happy.

I'm 'easily amused' so 'trivial' things can make me happy all the time - time spent with my kids, taking my family somewhere, even just to a movie or a picnic or something.

Snaak wrote:
What did your parents try to teach you that you to this day still not agree with?

Like every set of differences between generations, things that applied or 'worked' when they were coming up but not for me.

The rest of that guy's fingers!

If you were the sole survivor after a nuclear winter, what would you do?

Well, if I knew absolutely I was the sole survivor (otherwise I'd be searching for others) I think I would search out what resources I have and figure out how I would survive although I think the real struggle would be after figuring out why I should want to survive.

Is there something typicial Kenyan or African that your wife brought into your life when you got together? Like a tradition or food, etc?

We used their naming convention for our kids' middle names so my daughter's middle name is my mom's name, and my son's middle name is my dad's name which conveniently is my name.

How many items of clothing do you own that have a picture of a wolf on it?

I dunno, maybe a dozen, but I actually had a lot more when I was younger.

How would you handcuff a one-armed man?

Ya just gotta shoot them. Orrr use an option such as leg irons, hobble, etc.

If I was your Cultist how would you like me to signal this to you?

By geekmail, but we can't do that..

Are you asking about the cooked ones or the live ones?

Do you own any firearms? If so, what kind? Do you have any weapons you carry around on your person on a regular basis?

Under what circumstances would you kill another human being?

(I'll get to my long list of questions soon enough. I'm building up to it...)

Yes

Redhawke wrote:

.357 mag and .45 auto; also supposedly rifles although I had left them back in my parents' safe a long time ago and I don't even know if they're still there.

No - used to, but not since more than a decade ago.

Hopefully never, but I can see some possibilities - if I was a soldier in a war, to keep someone from being killed or seriously injured, to protect my family, etc.
