I'm pretty sure that I'm doing this right but could someone please let me know for sure.

My Question: Is the order of events right?

1. A battle begins.

2. Defender places his units on the battle board.

3. Turn meter is set to "1".

4. Attacker places his units on battle board and takes turn.

5. Defender takes turn.

6. Turn meter is set to "2".

etc.

I think it helps if you label the steps a little more.

Turn 1: Defender Move/Attack. Defender puts their pieces down. There's no on to attack, so...
(Turn 1: Attacker Retaliation) doesn't ever happen.
Turn 1: Attacker Move/Attack. Attacker moves onto the board and can attack if in range.
Turn 1: Defender Retaliation. Defender's army can attack anyone in range (no rangestriking though, retaliator never rangestrikes).
Turn 2: Defender Move/Attack. Defender moves pieces, attacks.
Turn 2: Attacker Retaliation.
Turn 2: Attacker Move/Attack.
Turn 2: Defender Retaliation.

Pieces with enough damage get removed at the end of any retaliation step.

What you want to see is that each player gets to "attack twice in a row". After that initial Attacker Move/Attack phase.

The turn marker gets incremented when the Defender has a Move/Attack step.

For some reason I had trouble with this at first. That sequence is incorrect. This is how it should go:

Place Turn Marker Defender side up on The 1 space
- Defender places units on board (nothing to attack yet)
- No attackers present yet
Flip To Attack Side
- Attacker places his units on board, then carries out strikes/range strikes
- Defender may strike (not rangestrike)

Move Turn Marker to the 2 Space and flip to Defender side
- Defender Moves, then strikes/rangestrikes
- Attacker may strike (not rangestrike)
Flip Turn Marker to Attacker side
- Attacker Moves and strikes/rangestrikes
- Defender may strike (not rangestrike)

Move Turn Marker to 3 and flip to defender side
Etcetera

Note that the first strike phase does happen.
The defender may have a non-native character take damage in a drift.
If the defender has left his titan off the battle board, it is slain and the battle ends with the characters that entered (and all of the attacker's characters) surviving (and then counting for half points in the wrap up).
