Granted, I have only played a few games with the Library but in all cases the players who bought two or three library cards and then money cards killed everyone else.

By the last third of the game they could purchase a 6vp almost every other or third turn. They even beat people working the garden system and did so by a very large margin.

Any idea how to stop such a simple combo? Militia does not do it.

Thief would hurt them taking their high coins.

With Library they will be forced to fill hands with VP/Curse cards eventually.

Library only lets you pass on action cards.

The Library doesn't guarantee you money. Add the Witch or Thief into the mix and the Library doesn't seem so great. There are also a TON of card drawing combos that can out speed/ out produce it.

Militia helps tends to help library players. If lots of opponenets have libraries, think twice about whether your militia helps you enough to offset the risk of helping your opponents.

Council room is a reasonable counter, it helps library players much less than any other card.

In general, thief works well against money density strategies (though libraries work well with say, festival decks as well).

Every or other or every third turn? Weak! Many strategies can buy a Province every turn. A few can buy two Provinces every turn. Of course the cards for these strategies won't always be available.

Library / money seems like a fair strategy. Its main drawback is that it gets a big drag as you buy Provinces.

The Library is actually a good way to protect a "pure gold" deck from the Thief. Get lots of action cards, and get Gold and get rid of your Coppers. When your opponent uses a Thief, they probably just see action cards. But when you use your Library, you can skip most of your deck and are drawing as if you had only Gold and victory cards.

The Adventurer works even better with this strategy. You can get to the point where your Adventurer is guaranteed to draw two Gold, but you are still quite safe from the Thief.
