Ugh. As with Red November, Cosmic Encounter is now delayed...they must get shipments from Pluto.

Ah well...I got it for 33 dollars with free shipping, guess I can wait.

I'd rather pay my local FLGS price with a discount and be playing already. But that's just me I guess.

No, it's not just you. Although what really mystifies me is why we keep ordering things from Amazon when this continually happens. I suppose the lure of free shipping with most 25 dollar purchases is just too much to pass on for some.

I, for one, use the specialist e-stores for games, like Thoughthammer and BoardGameRevolution. TH seems to have great prices, but shipping is not so great unless you order enough to make it free. Boardgamerevolution doesn't offer free shipping, but it's very reasonable, so it's my go-to for single games like the OP lists above.

Sorry to hear about your amazon problems. I had a similar issue with battlestar galactica from buy.com. I didn't make the mistake a second time. I got Cosmic Encounter right when it game out from my FLGS. Hopefully the order will ship to you soon.

I should add to my reply, I am also sorry to hear about your Amazon hassles. Hang in there, I hope it arrives quickly but in the future, I'd seriously recommend using Thoughthammer, FairplayGames, or Boards and Bits if you're looking to use primarily an Online Store.

(Which I don't recommend all the time, you should try to support your local FLGS as well.)

What mystifies me is the Amazon.com explanation that, somehow, they can't get any copies of any of the items I pre-ordered from them. As large a corporation as they are, apparently, online retailers and mom & pop brick 'n mortar stores have more influence regarding the distribution of FFG games than Amazon.com does. Maybe that's true; maybe the game publishers are supporting the local retail outlets and the online retailers over the likes of Amazon.com.

Right now, I'm 1 for 7 on pre-orders. I actually got Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, but only after multiple delays and the exchange of several emails pointing out to Amazon.com that they were actually selling the game on their website while not filling my pre-order (NB: it was Amazon LLC, not a surrogate). I cancelled two games (Descent: The Tomb of Ice & Red November) but was able to get one for about $0.02 more and the other for $0.50 less. shake

Well, I'll be cranking out yet another email to Amazon.com Customer Dis-Service, but probably not til tomorrow, as I've already sent several today relative to another order moved to the late Jan/Feb 2009 delivery date.

Same delay here. I don't see how they can not have it in stock by now or why they are suddenly experiencing delays. Should I assume they oversold which is bad ordering/planning on their parts or that they are no longer making the profit margin that they want for this product so its easier to push out the orders hoping for cancellations? The delay makes me wonder if they truly want my business.

Well, first of all, I live out in the boonies. Nearest FLGS is almost three hours away driving at 70 MPH. So that's not an option.

Second, I do use other online retailers--but for one order, the free shipping is a nice option.

Third, I truly didn't mean for it to sound like I was whining...heck, I can wait. I was on the fence anyways--but for that price, I went for it.

Finally, I didn't see the other threads--they didn't appear on the first page..so I figured this was the first batch of updates sent. Sorry about that!

The worst part is that actually list it as "In stock".... as long as you're willing to pay the extra. If you preordered for the lower cost and free shipping... then I guess those copies just aren't available yet. What a scam. Because of my experience with ordering CE, Amazon is on my don't buy from anymore list. I'd rather spend my money somewhere that doesn't treat their customers like crap.

Actually, the "in-stock" item is for a retailer that lists on Amazon.com. The Amazon.com listing currently shows: Temporarily out of stock.

Paul, I'd add my agreement to what Ric Drywall (LOL at the name) has said here - wasn't trying to throw venom at ya, just commiserating while grumbling about these stupid online pre-order issues with Amazon. How lame!

Crap...didn't feel like venom to me! I actually felt bad that I hadn't seen the other threads and that I came off as whining about "stuff". Heck, of all the things I've been reminded of personally this year is that "stuff" isn't worth a bucket of warm piss (to invoke John Nance Garner).

Also, I'm a history professor...in today's higher education, you better have a thick skin! (Many students view college as a consumer -- they pay the money, they get the grade!) While I am actually considered a great lecturer--I'm also considered too hard...so comments like "He sucks" don't get to me.

Thanks for clarifying--but wasn't ticked at anyone else at all.

It's good that people report on problems like this. Some time ago, I learned that Amazon just wasn't reliable for pre-ordering on things I really wanted quickly. They're great on other stuff, but not pre-orders, sadly.

Threads like this are definitely public service announcements.

I just got an e-mail that mine has shipped. Considering the tracking information puts it in Jacksonville, Florida, I should have it Tuesday or Wednesday.
