It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.

You know, they say there was a man who jumped from the forty-FIFTH floor? But that's another story...

These are all the card printers I know who can do small quantities (some can even do 1 54card set). Guild of Blades was already posted, and they are a bit different than these kinds of printers.

They didn't answer there 24 hour phone service? Didn't return a fax quote request? Or did they just miss a single email you sent?

I've never used there services. Does anyone else have experience with them?

Online query form, and email. And it wasn't just one enquiry, hence the use of the plural noun enquiries.

Hi Cesar,

I've been looking into this same info recently myself as I'm looking to publish a board game. Technically once you create something, it's copyrighted and you control the rights as to who can make copies of it. However, copyright dates are determined by when you actually publish your work by making it available for sale to the public.

You can register a copyright with the Library of Congress, like you mentioned, and that will help you legally if anyone tries to infringe on that copyright, since you will have a copy of it on record with the LOC.

Here's the catch however. You can't actually copyright a game.
You cannot copyright a system or idea or even short phrases, so there is actually nothing you can do if someone wants to steal your game and develop another game on similar principals. I know... it sucks.
http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl108.html

What you CAN copyright is the specific text you use for the rules and any artwork used in the game. You may want to look into getting a Trademark if you are really concerned about infringement, but that costs more.

Also, you have up to 5 years (I think, check the website to be sure) from the 1st date of publication to register a copyright, so you don't have to copyright it before you publish.

Hope this helps,
Justin

You covered most of it.

A trademark is for a "style". Like a nike swoosh, a catch phrase, or some other "mark" of your "trade". Titles are trademarked sometimes.

A Patent could cover a game mechanic. There is one for Magic, and Hero Clicks (the base) I think. It's debatable if they would hold up in a court of law.

Overall, there isn't much protection for game mechanics.

You need to work with a company that specializes in custom playing cards in small quantities (short run). Visit www.theplayingcardstore.com , they can do small runs of digital playing cards or 500+ decks of casino quality playing cards.
