We were just married in Oct 2008. Looking back, hubby & I were introduced to board games more than 2 years ago. Guess what we met each other through that very board game session conincidentally! Since then, our love for each other and board games develop and strengthen over time. This sealed our love for each other as well for board games.

We started off visiting board games cafes and then we decided that it would be more economical to purchase our own games as we would have more options to play at home or with friends.

We are grateful to Board game geek website. A million thanks to the warm and enthusiastic BGG community. Your contributions of wonderful reviews and photos of the game components have certainly help us to gain better insights to the new games and make more informed decisions before purchasing them. BGG also allows us to keep track of our game collection.

Our board & cards game collection grew from just a simple Monopoly to more than 50 games to date. We even laminated the entire decks of cards for some of our favourite games for greater protection and longer "game-span". Won't it be a heart warming experience to share our beloved games with our children when they are older?

Designers board games concept is pretty new in Singapore. Many people here have the perception that board games are just the traditional Monopoly, Scrabble, Risk, Cluedo etc. This sparks off our interests in sharing our passion for board games with others. We decided to introduce friends around us to designer board games and make them realise that there are actually more depth & greater fun to board games than those games which they have been exposed to as a kid.

We are proud to say that we have met with considerable success. Most of our friends were initially surprised that there are such interesting and fun board games. They love the games that we introduced to them so much that they would text or call us to remember to bring some board or card games for our next gathering. Some even request to play the games twice or thrice during a single session.

One of the main reason that public in Singapore are less exposed to designer board games is that the local departmental or book stores only carry the usual fare - Monopoly, Scrabble, Risk, Cluedo, UNO. In the recent year, they have added Dividends and Giza from Fun Factory to their collection as well.....which is a good start

To be honest, there is only one and only designer board game retail store in Singapore. This results in a monopoly situation whereby the seller has the control over the prices (like demand and supply economics). Some hard core gamers have resorted to online bulk purchase in order to reduce the costs of their games. Despite the fact that international shipping charges can be a hefty sum, it is still relatively cheaper to order from online retailers rather than purchasing from the brick and mortar store.

My hubby and I together with a few friends feel that there is definitely a huge market for designer board games
in Singapore and it would be good to have more competitions in retail board games. In fact, it would be our dream to have a business doing what we love - board games.

Setting up a store requires much planning and capital, not forgeting the support from online retailers in shipping the games over. We are pretty much limited in terms of finances. Taking a loan from the bank would not be an option as interests are pretty high. But we are not giving up. We will concentrate on brainstorming & developing our business plan in paper while trying to save up for the capital.

Chinese New Year is around the corner....on 26 & 27 Jan 09.
So it would be a another good opportunity to introduce board games to our relatives and friends!

Special thanks to the BGG staff and all of u, the BGG community whom have made this our favourite site. meeple
