How do you stay up to date on the latest game releases? I am looking for a way that I can keep up with the latest games by spending just a couple hours a month. When I was single I had a lot of free time, but I don't have that luxury anymore.

I still use BGG for this task, but as great as this site is, it still lacks a proper search facility (or maybe I'm just not aware of it).

One method I have used is the Recent Games link:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/browser.php?itemtype=game&categ...

This, unfortunately, includes games sorted according to "entered" date and what I'm more interested in would be sorted by recent "published" date. And no photo is included in this view. You may call it "judging a book by its cover" but I first want to see a few photos before I bother reading any content. I find the photos-first approach works well for me.

The recent games link just doesn't cut it since the paging includes no photos. Instead I scan published dates, assess the title (does it sound like a war game? I'm not interested in those), and click open games into new tabs to see if photos are available. If not, I have to resort to flagging the game for later review (notify of content) and check back later. This is tedious and inefficient.

Eventually I scrapped this approach and simply started browing recently added pictures. This have proven a better means, but still not ideal. I have to wade through lots of familiar photos just to spot those belonging to more recent games.

Do other feel the pain of making use of inefficient searches?

Personally, the ideal search I'm after would sort games by published date that have, lets say, a minimum of 5 photos and it would display at least one of those photos in the list view.

Is there some search facility that I'm missing. The efforts to improve this site have been terrific, but I'm tired of having to spend so much time wading through photos just to stay abreast of recently published games I might want. How are others keeping abreast with a minimal time investment?

Your advice, if offered, will be appreciated.

Gone Cardboard is what I use: http://www.boardgamenews.com/index.php/boardgamenews/C50/

If you use Firefox, get Update Scanner: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3362 Update Scanner will scan Gone Cardboard as often as you like (daily or weekly should do) and present you with a version with the changes highlighted. You can also look at the previously scanned version.

I basically use the "Hot Games" feature of BGG to stay up on buzz about good new games, as well as the Boulder Games newsletter. They stay very well in touch with what BGGers want and are buying, as well as the latest releases. Also Boardgamenews.com.

I thought the modern term was "thumb sex worker".

Mario, sorry, but I forgot to add actual helpful advice to my silly answers. I'm using my Twitter account to post shipping updates for Gone Cardboard. A post from Dec. 30, for example, reads: "Gone Cardboard: The new edition of Empire Builder (Mayfair Games) has hit distributors and should be in stores within a week."

Such items are too short to merit a post on BGN, so I'm using Twitter, then feeding that to the right-hand column on BGN, in addition to updating Gone Cardboard itself.
