What is the easiest way to search for certain age groups? I see categories, but nothing about age groups. Is this possible? I'm looking for good game suggestions for 7 year old or so. He manages Carcassone pretty well if that give you any idea.
Thanks!

Oh & HI! :)

Hi!

That sort of thing often sees Geeklists. In the search field up there, select "GeekLists" and search for "7 year" (but no quotes). Happy hunting!

You can do an advanced search for a minimum age but I don't think there's an age group capability.

I don't think there's a really easy way to do what you want (but there certainly should be). This might get you close:

1. Click "Adv. Game Search" next to the search box above.

2. Type 8 in minimum age (so we don't eliminate Carcassonne ).

3. Set "Average User Rating" to "7 to 10", so we only get the "best" games.

4. Set "Average Gameplay Weight Range" to "1 to 3" (and at least 1 user weight rating), to keep the games fairly easy.

5. Go down past the categories and mechanics, and click submit.

6. Now click "Overall Rank" in the top row of the results to sort by rank.

You should get this list.

Skipping past the "Unranked" games, your top ten is:

1. Crokinole
2. Memoir '44
3. Ticket to Ride: Europe
4. Ticket to Ride
5. Carcassonne
6. Ticket to Ride: Märklin Edition
7. Yspahan
8. Blokus
9. For Sale
10. Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers

Age is NOT a good way to recommend games for children.

If a child is interested in playing a game (or often more accurately interested in playing a game WITH DAD OR MOM OR OLDER SIBLINGS), then "age level" makes almost no difference.

I agree ... searching by age is not a good way to find games for kids. My friends' 10-yr-old likes (and is quite good at)

Dominion
Shadow Hunters
Alhambra
Catan
World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game (this is borderline ... luckily he liked combat enough that he didn't mind that he wasn't completing quests)
Ca$h 'n Gun$
Pandemic
Ticket to Ride
Zooloretto
Aquaretto

He started playing at 7 or 8, when his older brother made the leap from "traditional" kids games.

Asking for recommendations always works for me. There is a "Gaming with Kids" forum ... that is a good place to post your request. I find this very useful as folk will not just list games, but tell you why a game worked or did not work. For example, I would not recommend Power Grid for kids under 10 since I think the game takes too long to play for kids that young.
