Just out of curiosity, I'd be interested in hearing what old or current PC or Console game would make for a good/cool/interesting/fun Board Game? And what company would you think could do a good job with it?

For me, I've always wanted to see Master of Magic made into a Board Game (or find a game similar enough to that wonderful yet venerable game.

(Edited out a sidetrack that's unnecessary to this topic.)

Culdcept for Dreamcast/Playstation 2/Xbox 360. Plays like a mashup of Monopoly and Magic the Gathering. Addictive and fun, if a bit long.

Fire Emblem. A nintendo SRPG with a rock-paper-scissors mechanism. Spears > Swords > Axes > Spears.

Very doable as a boardgame with individiual characters, they can eliminate the leveling up.

My nominees:

Archon
M.U.L.E.
Birth of the Federation (vastly simplified, obviously, but using the Star Trek license)
Freedom Force (not a "quest" game like Marvel Heroes, more a tactical wargame-ish set of superhero battles)
Mechcommander (not a collectable miniatures game, and not Battletech, but a boardgame with simpler mechanisms for handling the mechs, with the perspective raised above a handful of mechs)
Fallout (competitive survival in a post-apocalyptic world, possibly with reasons to cooperate, at times)
Street Fighter (design your own fighter, and then just have a brawl)

Didn't someone do a M.U.L.E. inspired game this year? I can't recall the name.

Brawl might be pretty close to a Street Fighter version (though you don't build a deck; they just sell a bunch of premade ones, or at least they used to).

Sword of Aragon.

Heck, you probably just need to add fantasy elements and a strategic scale to The Great Battles of History game "engine." Allow recruiting, training and equipting troops.

The System Shock and Crusader games from Origin Systems would make good sci-fi dungeon crawls.

I imagine Shock: The Board Game as some sort of demented, R-rated take on The Omega Virus.

General Bonkers says the War on String may be unwinnable. Detractors worry that his statements will embolden string.

As I understand it Planet Steam is basically a M.U.L.E. boardgame.

I'm surprised no one has ever considered making a game out of Sid Meier's Pirates! Someone should get on that one real soon... devil

Gauntlet. The enemies more or less just wander towards the players, so it could make a great co-op adventure game. Actually, I might home-brew this...

Don't forget to work in the timing mechanism whereby everyone eventually dies unless they keep sending you quarters.

I'm working on this idea (along with a billion others, so don't hold your breath).

Tactical RPGs have a basic combat system I'd really like to mimic. It would end up aesthetically similar to Heroscape, but with deeper gameplay.
Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, etc.

Racing games with weapons is high on my list. Mario Kart would be great, along with the more serious Twisted Metal. Current board game racers don't have weapons, and Car Wars type games are far too fiddle and miss the excitement of racing around blowing the snot out of each other.

Kirby's Dream Course would be neat. It's basically golf with special Kirby style special powers.

I'll second Master of Magic. I'd love a fantasy civ.

Heroes of Might and Magic would be cool too.

Master of Orion!

Yes, you read it right, the first one thou. MOO2 is also very good but far more complicated. Don't even google for MOO3, it was Daikatana-made.

Cheers

Stronghold.

The entire game would be about building your castle piece by piece. You would have to make sure that it has a wide variety of defenses, like rolling logs hitched to the sides of the walls, boiling oil over the doors, etc. Plus you get to attack other people's castles. I say that's a bad ass board game.
