I got an e-mail asking about this, so I thought I'd ask this group.

I'm not into tanks myself, but suppose I were. What if I were a real tread-head and was looking for a wargame that especially featured tanks, tanks, and more tanks? And did a good job of portraying tanks and tank warfare?

Suppose I already had CoH and CC:E and had played Lock 'n Load, but I still wanted more tanks.

What would you suggest?

MORE tanks than Combat Commander Europe?! What the hell man, have you some kind of insatiable tank fetish!

Advanced Tobruk would be a great place to start. Other ATS games that feature lots of tanks are Clash Along the Psel and Scottish Corridor.

WWII - some of the best options have already been listed - ASL, ATS, Panzer Blitz, Panzer Leader, Panzer Grenadier. I'd also add 88, Armor and Panzer (first edition) (a series of WWII armoured-combat games using the same system).

You may also be interested in Patton's Best, which is a solo game featuring the crew of a single Sherman tank and is very detailed.

Post-WWII, you have MBT (first edition), World at War: Eisenbach Gap, and IDF (Israeli Defense Force), all of which focus pretty heavily on AFVs.

Panzer Grenadier. Especially Panzer Grenadier: Elsenborn Ridge, Panzer Grenadier: Beyond Normandy or Panzer Grenadier: Road to Berlin. Panzer Grenadier: Secret Weapons has really really big tanks, and Panzer Grenadier: Iron Curtain has some fancy tanks, but they need additional base games. Lots of tanks.

Oh, and World at War: Eisenbach Gap has some nearly modern tanks, and World at War: Blood and Bridges with have even more very soon.

Another post-World War II game with lots of tanks is MechWar 2, which contains two separate games - Red Star/White Star 2 and Suez to Golan.

Everyone should be interested in Patton's Best, it's a marvellous game. Unfortunately, when I re-read the rules a few weeks ago I realised it is very detailed, maybe more than I can take now... shake

These games scratch my tank-itch, really. You get a lot of bang for the buck.
