Ledger Live visits one of New Jersey's most seen, and least heralded, roadside landmarks - the Union water tower, also known as The World's Tallest Water Sphere. Our guide for the day is a Union native and water sphere blogger who maintains the only museum dedicated entirely to this great feat of mankind.

Watch the segment here.

Too bad he didn't mention another form of artwork.

Yes, please become a World's Tallest Water Sphere micro-badge owner. It's good for you, plus we get to teach you the secret hand shake.

Seriously though, on that interview, I learned a new thing about Union's World's Tallest Water Sphere. I always thought is was a storage tower that provided water pressure to the community. However, interviewing workers on the site, I found that there are 6 well heads on site, a water pump house, water treatment, and water storage. So Union New Jersey residents are actually drinking the local water from the New Jersey aquifer! All the more reason to love and respect your local water sphere.

"Water sphere" is misleading. When I hear "water sphere" I expect to see a sphere of water suspended in the air by giant electromagnets or something.

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

Instead you get a sphere of water suspended in the air by a giant metallic structure. Nobody expects the World's Tallest Water Sphere. Its chief weapon is surprise.

Here's yet another reason. Another reporter has written about the World's Tallest Water Sphere.

(The print edition of the Star Ledger has a photo of me.)
