So, I've picked up a set of the plastic ships (or three) and thought I should really look into this game. I can get a PDF version of the rules off of ICE's site for cheap ($7), but I was thinking I should check here and see if it's worth while to pick up the boxed version of the game instead. From ICE's website the
Silent Death: The Next Millennium Deluxe Box Set contains:
9 polyhedra dice
32-page starcraft display book
Two 24" x 36" fold-out hex maps
16-page introductory scenario
Plastic accessories: missiles, torpedoes, asteroids
48 plastic ships + bases
So, I have the ships and will download the PDF for the rules. I also own a decent sized space hex map that I can use for play. So, out of the things I'm missing:
What exactly are the dice? Are they unique, or just d10/d8/d6/whatever?
The Starcraft display book is just the ship play sheets (record sheets for the ships?) I take it?
The plastic accessories for missiles, torps and asteroids. Are they any good? Does anyone have any pictures they'd like to post?
I'm just thinking $7 is much better than $50 to try out a game, but if the bits make the price worth the trip then I'll hold off until I pick up a copy of the boxed game.
Thanks for your help!
What exactly are the dice? Are they unique, or just d10/d8/d6/whatever?Standard dice. Nothing special.
The Starcraft display book is just the ship play sheets (record sheets for the ships?) I take it?Yes, it has all the damage track, etc. Very important. I believe one of the PDFs has all of the ship sheets but I am not sure which one it is.
The plastic accessories for missiles, torps and asteroids. Are they any good? Does anyone have any pictures they'd like to post? They are just very small pieces that look like torpedoes or missiles. Nothing fancy or great.
BTW, you are actually buying Silent Death: The Next Millennium Deluxe Edition without the deluxe, of course, which is the latest and greatest edition of Silent Death.
If the pdf rulebook is exactly the same as the rulebook in the set, it should also include stat sheets (with damge boxes, etc) for the basic plastic ships.
The pdf with all ships in it is: Hangar 51, but this does not include rules for all the weapons which came explained in the sourcebooks.
You will be needing tokens representing torpedos, any small token will do
