I already have Conquest of the Empire, but I have the opportunity to pick up Attack! in a trade. On the surface, other than the difference in eras the two games seem rather similar. Is there anyone who has played both that could tell me if the two are worth owning for anything more than a change in setting?

I own both and am happy that I do. However, be aware that while "Conquest" gives you 2 games in one box, the opposite is true of "Attack!" -- you're only getting half the system with the base game. This version plays more like advanced "Risk" than "Classic Conquest" and is not a terribly satisfying experience.

You MUST have Attack! Expansion to make ownership worthwhile. It adds the other half of the world, a full naval game, politics, oil, technology, and more. The full system has a great WWII-era feel and plays very differently than either version of "Conquest"; other than combat dice they have very little in common.

Also be aware that a new version of the system, Attack! Deluxe Expansion, is due out this year.

Hope that helps.
