Backgammon has long been a favorite game of mine, and just recently I've started playing Can't Stop. I notice a couple other dice games have gotten a lot of BGG acclaim. So I'm wondering--which dice game do you like best, and why?

Here's a little poll for people in a hurry. If you have more time, please post a reply.

Poll
Which dicey game do you like best?
Can't Stop
Igel Aergern
Backgammon
Yahtzee
Craps
Liar's Dice
Street Soccer
Other:_______________
None; I can't stand dicey games.

Edit: Here's another poll, in light of some of the posts to this thread. Consider it an expansion of "Other." And my apologies for not making the original poll better. Is there a GeekList for great dice games?

Poll
OK, then . . . which of these other dice games do you like best?
Roma
Reiner Knizia's Decathlon
Sharp Shooters
$Greed
Pickomino
To Court the King
Airships
Settlers Dice Game
Risk Express
Easy Come, Easy Go
Sushizock im Gockelwok
Roll Through the Ages
Alea Iacta Est
Yspahan
Kingsburg

Currently, it probably is Roll Through the Ages: The Bronze Age.

I do, indeed, have my eyes wide open for alea Iacta Est.

Of your list, although I chose Other, I could have chosen either Craps or Yahtzee...they are not too bad, as far as dice games go!

I have only played Yspahan once, but that play beat all the other dice games I have played so far.

If you can find a copy, my suggestion is Sushizock im Gockelwok. It's compact, fast, and loads of fun.

I voted for Can't Stop, but I did like the one game I played of Alhambra: The Dice Game (enough that I'd trade for it with a reasonable deal).

You're missing practically the whole new breed of dice games, Patrick. The genre has definitely had a comeback over the last 5 years. Here's some of the best examples of these designs:

Pickomino
To Court the King
Roma
Airships
Settlers Dice Game
Risk Express
Easy Come, Easy Go
Sushizock im Gockelwok
Roll Through the Ages
Alea Iacta Est

And I'm not even including boardgames like Yspahan and Kingsburg, where dice are central to the action and are used in clever ways. I'm afraid your list is sadly out of date. The good news is, there's lots of great dice games for you to try out!

Igel Ärgern takes the cake for me with Liar's Dice a rather distant followup. All the rest listed above hold no interest for me. For all Larry's claims of other games being variously more modern etc I do not find them interesting or worth playing.

I voted Airships, even though I've only played it 3 times...I enjoy it, and recommend it.

Kingsburg is a fun one too, and available on BSW for those who want to try before they buy.

I also like God Dice, as a quick filler game. I'd recommend doing a "snake" draft of characters though instead of 1,2,3,1,2,3 and so on. A bit expensive at $20 (I purchased mine at Gen Con) for the components (dice, cards, and small cardboard counters,) but a fun little game.
