Hearing your criteria, my first thoughts would have been something along the Dune Model. Three rival houses competing for the key to civilization and then the Emperor, the one the controls the resource and then strings each house along, forcing them to fight each other, so his rule can continue unchallanged.

The heroes that fight for freedom always get the longest names, Moor Therans. Human like freedom fighters with creazy weapons.

The most savage of the three factions gets the single sylible name, Toth. Always generically engineered monsters.

The guys stuck in the middle, with their own agenda, that is secret to all others, Zantar. Human like, but always in masks, you never get to see their true faces.

Lastly, the cold and faceless federation that doesn't take sides, a generic name that sounds like the confederacy, so people are more predisposed to not like them, the Confederation. Robots, robots, robots.

The tittle: Veruk (A key planet in the game)

Factions: Moor Therans
Factions: Zantar
Factions: Toth

Peacekeepers: The Confederation

Good Luck, and I would love to see it...
