Late last year, I had the opportunity to speak to six classrooms of sixth graders for a career day at a local middle school. At that age, a career day apparently comes across as "these are the ten career options in the universe," and now many of them are interested in working in the wargame art business. Apparently that sounds better than being an accountant or pharmacist...

But in seriousness, it was neat to encourage the group that they live in a country and time (one of the few in history) where you really can have a go at any job you want. Also that everyone is a geek about something, whether 19th century agrarian economics or the NBA, and never to be ashamed of such.

Anyway, it was a great deal of fun to speak to them, and gained a few young converts to wargaming along the way...

That's funny. One of my best friends will hardly touch games, but he's a total geek about 19th century (and before and beyond) agrarian economics. Seriously.
