Now, in my defence, it was only my second game of Alhambra ever, and my first two player game, and it came at the end of a weekend where we'd played 15 games of various board games.

But yes, I came third behind Dirk. By 9 points. cry

Please tell me I'm not the only person this has ever happened to...!

I'm never living it down at home. soblue

We scored the game correctly - Dirk for his building majorities (or shared points for joint majorities) but nothing for city walls. He was dealt over half the whites and a good hand of greens, and I then failed miserably to get a majority in anything, just equalling on some colours meaning several sets of shared points. So even my wall couldn't save me.

I ended up with an atrocious 100 points, Dirk with 109 and my other half with about 135.

I love almost all games, play Boardgames with my wife, have three kids, generally enjoy cats and understand and like those bumper stickers with the little fishies sprouting legs.

I lost to Dirk by three points with my wife about 20 points ahead of either of us a couple weeks ago. I'm just waiting for the game where we BOTH loose to Dirk! surprise

You're not the only person. This happened to my wife once as well - and she has never lived it down! Sorry to say that you are probably scarred for life.

It's very rare that Dirk is close to either of us now that we play with some of the expansions, so I suggest you get some of the expansions if you want to avoid it happening again (the extra scoring abilities in the expansions tend not to be available for Dirk).

Have you noticed how Dirk seems to like green?

Keep in mind, too, that besides the automatic draw players can purchase a tile and (spitefully) hand it over to Dirk.

Well, Dirk designed the game. Of course he's going to win once in awhile!

Plus, he has nothing else to do all day in that box.

Yes, neither of us did this at all during the game. We're still getting the hang of it. I will bear this in mind next time as we do like games where we can screw each other over. devil

Do not be too downhearted. I'm a decent Alhambra player, but I do recall one online game where Dirk won outright. (Hogged all the darned towers.)

Well Madeleine and I played our second game tonight and we both got done by dirk. We only played the base game but we played it by the rules. Final scores Dirk 115, Myself 109 and Madeleine 83. Score for Madeleine equals poetic justice as she tried to stop ,me by buying a piece and handing it over to Dirk. Dirk cornered the Market with the first two scorings. The first scoring he pretty much got most of the scorings giving him a substantial lead that he never let go off right to the end he either one or equal placed with one of us.

Don't worry Sarah, I'm sure that when your 'friends' come around again they won't mention it at all!
