The LOTR movies are far better than any of the Star Wars movies. If you think otherwise then you are wrong, and you should thank me for pointing out how wrong you are.

[Edited because I felt like it. P.S. if you like Star Wars better, then you are wrong.]

My son, a WoW junkie, asked to watch all of the extended LOTR movies in a row over the course of a week.

We did so.

The movies are good, sure.

But my God, I can't believe they try to be even more boring than the books.

Huge stretches of walking. Exposition. Talking. Good gried it was a struggle to continue at some points. And I mean as the viewer, not the ringbearer. I think they may do that to get you to feel the anguish of having to carry the ring - having to sit through stretches of ... ugh...

I will point out that when we finished (Sunday) my son was glad they were over, but definitely did enjoy it.

not as much as he enjoys Star Wars stuff.

The Star Wars movies used to be my favorite movies of all time. Now the Lord of the Rings movies have replaced them as favorites. Well, Empire is still better than Fellowship.

Far better? No, sorry, you're wrong, and you're just going to have to live with that fact.

If you could touch the alien sand and hear the cries of strange birds and watch them wheel in another sky, would that satisfy you?

The Lord of the Rings are some of my favorite books and some of the movies I despise the most in the world. I fail to see a single redeeming thing about them, and not because the deviate from the books, but because they are simply bad film making.

The books are great... for curing insomnia. For those of you who complained that the movies had too many stretches of people just walking, well, what the hell did you read?

To address a couple of points...

1. I'm right.
2. You're wrong.

Hope that clears up a couple of misconceptions about these films.

I've never understood why the Discworld books are so universally loved. They're not bad, but I get the feeling they're supposed to be the funniest thing ever, but I've laughed more while reading old Games Workshop rulebooks(Blood Bowl to mention one) than I've ever laughed while reading a Discworld book. I was part of a theater production of one of the books and thought the story and jokes were ok in that one, but nothing brilliant. I never read the book it was based on, but I felt it worked well as a play.

Being forced to eat lye > LOTR books

I believe making someone read the archaic language, glacial pacing and soggy exposition as seen in the LOTR books is against the Geneva Convention.

Thank you for pointing out how wrong you are!

Here's where everyone calls me crazy, but I'm entitled to my opinion:

Lord of the Rings the Board Game > Original Star Wars Trilogy > Star Wars Novels > Lord of the Rings Books > Prequel Star Wars Trilogy > Lord of the Rings Movies
