After avoiding it for months, I finally counted my games. I had figured I had around 70 games. Oops, I counted 125, and probably missed a few.

Now, most of my games are fairly new, highly rated games here on the Geek. I went on a Tanga-spree that accounts for about 15 games, but mostly they are Agricola/PR/Dominion/TTR type games that retail for $30-50.

I realized, with something approaching horror, that if I were to sell my collection for $20 apiece I could raise almost $3000. This is more than we paid for our car, a 1995 Subaru Outback with 150,000 miles on it.

Games > Car

Obviously, I have my priorities straight.

Alright, now who else can make this claim?

(Oh, and if you don't have a car, you don't count. You are undoubtedly living on a higher moral level than the rest of us--or in New York, which occupies its own moral universe--so the comparison is not fair.)

Easily, my games are worth more than my car.

200 + games vs a 1997 Sebring JXi Conv with 190,000 miles on it.

I doubt all of my board games are but I'd wager they're worth a few grand.

I can confirm that the combined value of my PC and console video games exceeds the current value of my car (a 1997 Stratus with lovely rust trim) by several thousand dollars.

My car is a 1991 (the only car I've ever owned!), my wife's is a 1995-ish. I have 170 games listed (that includes expansions and kids games). I wouldn't be surprised if replacing my game collection with new copies cost wore than I would get by selling either of our cars.

A couple of years back, I bought a new Toyota Matrix for...about $15K.
Sandi's truck cost $9k about 8 years ago.

Sadly, Games > Cars.

Yes.

The '97 Probe GT still does corners at 40mph, runs like a champ, and can fit over a hundred games in the back with the seats folded down.

Life is good!

I'm not sure my car is worth anything. What's the blue book value on a '95 Accura with 120k miles on it?

385 games (excluding RPGs and things like my 3 extra copies of Battle Cry and cases of MtG cards and such) vs. '95 Dodge Dakota 4cyl pickup I bought for $1400. Not even close.

Even if I add my '95 KLR-250 I paid $1500 for, I'm still at less than my games.

Even if I add my project vehicles: '63 Ford Econoline Van and my '62 Young Fire Equipment Fire Truck (Ford C-Cab).

I like Board Games.

Oh, I just had a horrifying thought. We insure our cars, right? (Well, most of us do.) Has anyone put his/her collection on their house/apartment insurance?

I started thinking of all the games I have bought within the last six months and realized it is a chunk o' change.

As for the reply of the OP's question: No my games aren't worth more than my car--yet. My '07 Prius will depreciate and my game collection will continue to grow....just a matter of time before $games > $car.

Are you talking about the total amount I spend on my Piece 'O Crap monthly or what the actual vehicle is worth by it self.

1) Maintenance
2) gas hog
3) My games are ashamed to ride in my car so I have to bribe them with cash.

All these factors make my car COST more, but maybe not worth more.

Games are still less than value the our primary car... But catching up.

I have a ton of money invested in additional miniatures for war hammer and WWII n-scale armor, air craft and artillery.

I figure the value of games and add-ons is about $6K+

I have been thinking about insuring my games and comic book collection...

This is a no-brainer for me. At $20 each, my 670 games would net me $13,400. According to Kelly Blue Book, my 1990 Geo Prizm is worth about $500 -- and that is being generous. Still, it gets me where I am going.

If we added in our 2008 Town and Country minivan, we still wouldn't top that. We might, however, be able to carry all (or most) of our games. But we would have to strap the kids to the roof.

I just bought a new '08 Saturn Astra hatchback last year. It cost more than my game collection.

Hmm, come to think of it, it cost more, but I doubt I could fit all my games into it, that's not even fair!

No, especially since I sold a few hundred bucks worth of games over the last month.

But the sale has brought home to me one of the many ways in which games are better than cars. They hold their value better. Sometimes they even appreciate, rather than depreciate.

I have around 60 games that range in retail price from $15 to $55.

I just bought a 95 Saturn with 130K miles for $1000.

So... yeah.

But the good news is that I don't have a car payment, so I'm able to pick up a game or two here and there if I so choose.

No car!

Ok, I killed my motorcycle a few months ago and it was worth around $12,000. So, if I go back in time.

Yeah, games > then Motorcycle

920ish games+expansions.

I thought I was going to be the only one, but it appears a lot of people's games are worth a lot more than their car is.

There's times where the games that are in the car are worth more than the car itself.

I would wager that I could get more for my game collection, but I am a lot less willing to part with my game collection, so the mathematics of value are meaningless.
