OK just thought of this with no playtest whatever but... How about a skill call Run and Gun. It would let you move 8 and use your pistol twice? It's like you see in the movies. Just a thought.

Anything that makes the pistol viable/worthwhile (but not overpowered) is a good thing.

This would be a pretty weak Marine Card though-If you use it I'd just make it a House rule. (I'd Hate to draw this card.)

It is weak, so now it's just something a marine can do automatically, In addition to his skills. That way with 3 marines they get 2 skills and this half skill. (pistols have unlimited ammon as well).

Weak?!? This actually sounds really powerful! Sure, the pistol is a weaker weapon, but giving a Marine the ability to do a Run and a Battle would do wonders in a game. Don't knock the pistol until you use it a lot. You'd be surprised how effective this maneuver would be...
