This is mild as far as pixel hunting goes. This one doesn't even require obsessive clicking - the cursor changes shape if you can interact with something. The clickable areas are also pretty large and mostly visually apparent.

Some of these 'room escape' games are real classics, there are numerous web sites that'll point you to them. Personally I check http://www.jayisgames.com a couple of times a week, wednesday is usually room escape day, with archives going way back, and usually walkthroughs in case you get really stuck.

What did I do?

On your blog you linked to a site that linked to the game. Clearly, it is your reckless linkage that has brought our nation's Chit Chat's production to a grinding halt, and no fault of mine.

Did it without cheating, on my first attempt.

Unless you coun't working 1 by 1 through a two-digit combination as cheating.

I don't know where I was supposed to find the combination, but if they wanted me to search for it, it should have had three digits...

Nifty game. (I miss Myst.)

Spoiler (click to reveal)
I got that combination off the clock. I assume the & and % were red herrings? I expected the time showing on the clock would eventually be meaningful, too, but it wasn't for me.

And what was the point of the drawer in the clock cabinet? Was it just there to point out the symbols around the clock face and clue you in to the fact that they corresponded to the symbols on the number keys on a keyboard? I had all that figured out before I found out that you could pull the drawer all the way out.
