Our group really enjoys playing Paths of Glory but we felt like it needed hidden counters strengths to add to the tension and the historicity of the game. I have posted two files that allow PoG to be played with hidden counter stacks. The files contain all the counters for each nation to allow for hidden stack identification. One side of the counters marks an un-entrenched force, the other if it is entrenched. These counters sheets (www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/40880 ) can be printed out and then glued to thin cardboard with rubber cement: (tip to get them to line up: Glue the front side of counter one block, cut out the block, then cut out the back block and glue it on. Then cut out the individual units.) These markers go on the board in place of the Armies and Corps. The second file (www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/40881 ) contains placement sheets where you put the Armies, Corps and Trench levels that are in any space. These sheets can be set away from your opponents view. Trench markers also go one here to keep hidden if the units are at level one or two trench. When a unit entrenches the marker counter is flipped to the trenched side but does not show what level. We do not do free set up but we place on the hidden markers on at the start of the game.
