At the beginning of the game before the S. League comes into
play Haps control markers are placed on spaces in Germany. Do these spaces count as Haps home spaces until the prots get them or are they just considered controled by the Haps but not home spaces. I would think that they are not home spaces for the Haps as they do not have a yellow background>

Correct. They are not Hapsburg Home Spaces, just Hapsburg controlled.

Just to further clarify, nothing ever changes the "home status" of any space, except for Algiers, Oran, and Tripoli. Algiers switches from independent to Ottoman home space status when Barbary Pirates comes out, and Oran and Tripoli can be switched from Hapsburg home space status to Ottoman home space status by Pirate Haven.

Other than those exceptions, every space on the board always has the same "home status" throughout the game.
