Your Move Games announces Second Punic War set for Battleground

The first Battleground: Historical Warfare release – the Second Punic War – has just gone to print and should be in stores in June. Battleground: Historical Warfare uses the same rule set as Battleground: Fantasy Warfare, so this set can be played as a stand-alone game or combined with fantasy armies.

Rome vs. Carthage, Hannibal vs. Scipio Africanus

The Second Punic War set brings the forces of Rome and Carthage to life. Cross the Alps with Libyan Foot, Numidian Cavalry, Elephants and the rest of Hannibal’s mercenary army or defend Rome with maniples of Hastati, Principes and Triarii.

Get Started for $25 or buy the Complete Package for $50

While previous Battleground factions have come individually in single decks, Rome and Carthage will be sold together in two boxed sets. The Punic War Basic Set is a standalone game with all the cards needed to play Rome vs. Carthage and a comprehensive Battleground rulebook. The Expansion Set contains an additional fifty unit cards for each army plus a scenario book that includes design notes on our approach to simulating this epic period. Each set has an MSRP of $24.95 and as always the cards are non-random so no collecting is needed.

About Battleground

Battleground is a tabletop tactical wargame that uses cards, rather than painted models, to represent your forces. This means a much lower price as well as easier transportation and setup, but don’t be fooled – this is not a “light” war game or a CCG. Battleground is a serious, award-winning wargame that will challenge you at every step, from army design and deployment to tactical maneuvers and command decisions until battle’s end.

This is sweet, good decision. What size is the rulebook, did you take the opportunity to do a larger rulebook with the larger gamebox, perhaps even printed in color?

The rulebook (and the scenario book that come with the expansion) are 3.5" by 5", so twice as big as the earlier ones.

I'm feeling pretty good about the price drop. We save a bit of money by printing decks this way rather than in individual tuck boxes and there's also a definite advantage in having fewer SKUs. My expectation is that from now on all factions will be published as a single stand-alone product rather than with two decks. You won't be able to buy just a starter, but you'll also save $5 off the normal price for an army, get a better rulebook, etc. (The rulebook is still black and white, though...it's hard enough cutting $5 off the MSRP; if we'd gone to a color rulebook it would have been prohibitively expensive.)

The Warren is a roleplaying game about intelligent rabbits trying to make the best of a world filled with hazards, predators and, worst of all, other rabbits.

Hooray! Does this mean that subsequent reprints of older factions will be in this new format?
