So today spur of the moment I decided I needed to learn and play Football Strategy.

I've printed out all of the charts, rules, field, etc (thanks by the way to all the people that put all the stuff up).

The only thing that's not on the geek is the defensive strategy cards. Now I was thinking index cards with the letters A-J would suffice, but I wanted to know how important the actual text on the cards are.

Would it be worth the extra effort to just write on the cards when specific defenses are good suggested?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Eric,

I think that's all you really need - individual cards with the letters on them will definitely suffice. It's been years since I've played and I can't remember if there is any additional text on them. If so, it would just be simple help text, such as "Goal Line Defense" or "Zone - Long Pass" - stuff like that.

You also may want to make the cards smaller so that they'll fit into your hand easier. That way you can manipulate through them much quicker when playing.

Once you play, you should look into getting a copy on eBay. The board, ball, 10-yard marker, cards, and charts are simple but nicely done. I picked up a few of them several years ago as gifts and giveaways to friends. I know I didn't pay more than $5 for a copy.

Have fun,
Andy

Thanks Andy.

I'm going to give it a try tonight. I really didn't even look into getting a copy...I figured since it was an older avalon hill title it would be a bit pricey. But, since you say its so cheap I'll have to look into it.

All that is important for game playing purposes are the letters. You could use chits just as well.

Ah this is perfect! Thank you! I'll print that out and put it on my index cards.

I already played one quarter with a friend. It's going to really help us having some sort of direction with defensive plays.

I have never even read the names of the formations on the cards (or the names of the offensive plays, for that matter). All you need to know is a letter and a number. All the rest is pasted on theme. :)
