I’m a little confused about the Ghost Ship cards.

Quote:

(1) If the movement ends on a pirate lair, the Ghost Ship takes any treasure that may be there. This is left face down and placed next to the holds.

(2) If the Ghost Ship wins a battle, it can steal whatever it wants. However, anything other than gold is thrown in the sea... It can also steal treasure cards, but it never gives any away .

(3) If a player wins a battle against the Ghost Ship, he can steal the contents of a hold, steal a treasure card (except Lady Beth) or give it a treasure card.

As I understand it (2) means that he only takes things when winning but cannot give any cards to the looser. But when a player wins he is still able to steal a card. Right?

Yes that is correct.

The point is that from #1, the Ghost Pirate might collect treasure cards but no one knows what they are. So if you lose a battle to the Ghost Ship, it might steal a treasure. But it you win, you can only draw unknown cards, not give it any curses.

Hello, little correction: if you win a battle against the Ghost Ship you can give it any cursed treasure you want.

The only restriction is when the GS wins a battle: the opponent playing it can steal any card from the looser, but if it is a hidden treasure, he can't have a peak at it. If it is not a hidden one, the card stays face up.

Cheers
