Has started a geeklist with the same title as this forum thread. I thought it was kind of interesting so here is some support for it with polls.

Well, feel free to add Game of Thrones to this since you are a fan. That was one of the games that was in the original discussion.

What an amusing taxonomy.

You realize, of course, that even the most diligent attempt at conflict simulation design is still abstracting a dumptruck-load of elements? (Not to mention lighter wargaming fare.)

And that your categories overlap, and thus selections shouldn't total 100%?

Hey, if you can make a better poll then go for it. Otherwise appreciate the work Tony put in here.

Nice way to do the polls, but is there any way to enforce 100% sums?

Not that I could think of. It would also be nice to see the average result rather than just the highest, but I think that means doing some calculating outside of this once some more votes are in.

I just thought it was a bit of fun. But interesting to see the results.

People have been arguing about whether Twilight Stuggle is a wargame or not for ages, now we will be able to refer them to this thread and tell them that it is 63% Wargame. Should settle the argument.

Games I'd like to see someone add (of course this means adding it to the geeklist with your own view to get shot at):
Game of Thrones
Tigris & Euphrates
Vinci
After the Flood
Memoir '44

Not sure I agree that its 100% Diplomatic, but I think Diplomatic Game could have been another category. Damn these uneditable polls. angry

imho you're missing the categorization of traditional or classic game (like Monopoly, Parcheesi, or Scrabble)

Tony,

How can I get the poll to replicate for a new game? I tried to quote you, take away the quote and then cut and paste but I ended up with the poll results of the one I copied.

Not sure how to proceed.

In the coresponding Geeklist you can add any category you like to the game you put up. In fact, when you post the poll underneath (on the geeklist) you could add that or any category you like.

It would be cool to put up monopoly or something like that.

You have to create a new poll for each game.
If you haven't created one before here is a very quick guide:

You have to go to Forums -> Post New Thread
In the new thread click the Green Tick to get a poll and design it - you get to see what it looks like before you finally "Save Poll".
This will then give you a poll id in square brackets.

Now to put this into a geeklist:

Cut and paste the pollid in its brackets into a comment or entry on the geeklist.
You can then cancel your forum post if you want - you do not have to publish it - the Poll exists separately in the BGG system from the forum post.

Using the word "taxonomy" is enough to get my thumb!
