I can't stand it when people come in to the library and just hand me stuff, without saying anything. Someone hands me a stack of papers and expects me to make a copy for them. Someone else comes in and hands me a graduation form and expects me to sign it. I understand that we both understand your request, but could you at least show some human courtesy and ask me to do what it is you want me to do, and not treat me like an automaton?

We used to say this to our kids all the time. They'd grunt or groan and point. And we'd say, "Use your words!" Hope it pays off later in life.

I am the shipper/receiver/inventory controller/and doc control for the company I work at. People are always leaving stuff on my dutch door - do you want me to ship this? Put it into inventory? Do you want to sign out one like it?

The other pet peeve is when people fill out a demand on stores form, put down the wrong part number, I pick that part and then they get mad at me because that is not the part that they wanted. Arrrggggg.

I agree! I also think it is rude to approach someone and immediately demand what you want. Smile and say hello first. Ask how the other person is doing today.

It's kind of like acknowledging that you know you are speaking to a real person and not just a vending machine.

As a bonus, it really confuses people in the service industry. 98% of the time the result is that I get better service than all the cranky people who were in front of me.

I just think that people in general have poor communication skills and very poor verbal communication skills.

Lots of students don't know how to communicate what they want, need, etc. when approaching someone at school.

It is sad..............rude...........upsetting.

Or pull out a lighter and light it on fire right there on the desk...although that would probably be harder to pass off as miscommuication.

True that. Yesterday someone came in and just started spouting random words at me. I thought she had a G-Rated Tourette's until I realized that she was actually attempting to ask me a question.

I would pay to see the "My name is Stephanie" part coming from a guy named Issac. I bet that would throw a lot of people.

But isn't their sentence the correct one? Adding 'please' to the end makes it incorrect English, not polite. Better manners would be to say "May I check out a digital camera please?"
