OK, my periodic gamer census polls branch into quesy directions here, but I really don't think this belongs in the RSP threads. That forum area is all about battling over religion, sex, and politics. Here, I'm just trying to gather information and make no negative generalizations about the results. I'm just interested.

And, yes, it does get into games for the final two segments.

I appreciate any answers, and I fully admit that I could well have missed some obvious options, but I was doing this right before meeting someone for lunch. :)

How uncomfortable would be feel if you were playing a strongly-themed boardgame with the following themes (skipping an answer is equivalent to "not at all uncomfortable"). Your discomfort may or may not have anything to do with your religious beliefs or lack thereof.

Oops. The first question should have been last, but that's the way it is. I also have no idea why the question numbers are strange.

It was somewhat unclear for me if you meant any religious theme whatsoever, or a preachy "religious game". I assumed the former, i.e. a game that somehow simulates religion without necessarily proselytizing, analogous to how a wargame doesn't necessarily encourage war.

This should inspire several new games to market:

Slay the Fetus or Operation: D&C
Slave Trader (capture the tribesman and put them to work on the pyramids/cotton farm/plantation) otherwise known as Puerto Rico
Roman Rampage (a game about torturing Christians -- lions and all)

and many more.

Actually, that's an interesting topic you left off.
I wonder how people would feel about a game about torture.

Been there, done that!
Christians and Lions
I used to play that with my non-gamer mother-in-law at the time, somewhat surreally.

Does it include boiling oil and crucifixion? If not, it's just a pale imitation.

I am not uncomfortable with a game about abortion, I just can't imagine a good game in good taste with this as a significant theme in the game.

Are my friends religious? Like many people, I expect, some of mine are, some aren't and some I don't know about. How am I supposed to answer?

As you see fit. If you think more are than aren't, then maybe you'd answer "I think so." That's how I approached it.

I am personally not morally opposed to early trimester abortion, but I, like cosine feel like making light of the subject with a board game could not possibly be tasteful. I could never feel confortable saying something like "That gives me two abortion counters for the win" or "I abort the child to save crops for the winter." Doesn't really sit well.
Sort of the same way people have murder mystery dinners and not rape mystery dinners.

Which is indeed an odd thing. As if people feel "Rape is offensive and violent and disturbing, not at all like murder!"

It's a perennial discussion topic at BGG, but why are certain themes taboo, even though when looked at logically, they're no worse than plenty of other themes which are quite popular and uncontroversial. (E.g. pirates. In real life, pirates are pretty brutal and evil, yet there's a real pirate fetish among many gamers.)

Some of the questions depend on how they portray my church.

and what kind of gang violence are we talking about?
The Godfather?
Scarface?
Modern Street gangs?

The horror is greater since the victim survives.

I think like many, I just kind of "grin and bare it" when it comes to themes I don't like. I play games to relax, not to confront friends on various beliefs. If heated discussions appear, they are usually quick and painless... and meeple related.
