My latin is not very current, but really whose is? What is the proper pronunciation?

Ole-tray mah-ray? This is what I have been saying but, it gets quizzical looks and raised eye brows in response.

"Ole-tray mah-ray" sounds good enough. Oh, and it's Italian, not Latin: if it was Latin, it would be "Ultra Mare".

"Oltre" means "beyond", so "oltre mare" would be "beyond the sea". "Oltremare", one word, usually refers to colonial or post-colonial territories. Together with "blu" ("blue") means "ultramarine".

Ol-treh MAH-reh

Both "e's" without any "ay" sounds.
