There are those who look at things the way they are and ask why . . . I dream of things that never were and ask why not

Darrell, Jenny, Mandy, Vincent
vs.
Hastur

With the exception of Darrell's Tommy Gun, Jenny's enchanted blade and a Withering spell possessed by Dr. Lee, the investigators were powerless.

All but Dr. Lee, in South Arkham collecting clues, entered the Curiosity Shoppe to help them in their quest. Between them, they were able to purchase two Elder Signs, with Mandy finding a Lamp of Alhazred.

Just as they were about to leave, the followers of Hastur began Disturbing the Dead.

Jenny entered R'yleh at Hibbs Roadhouse and Darrell rushed to an open gate and entered Another Dimension. Jenny was immediately ambushed by Cthulhu. She was so terrified by his sudden appearance that she was totally ineffectual and was devoured.

Michael McGlen heard the news as he lounged in Ma's Boarding House and joined the fray. He had been given a tome as he left the house which was filled with clues. He saw Dr. Lee duck into The Witch House, followed him inside and handed him the tome, it being beyond his comprehension.

While standing chatting with the doctor, he was suddenly driven insane and transported to the asylum. Before he could fully recover, however, one of the monsters that had already been destroyed by Jenny came to life and drove him out of his mind again.

When fully healed, he attempted to atone for his poor showing and attacked a cultist and two Mi-Go on The Unvisited Isle in order to pave the way for Darrell, who had already sealed Another Dimension and had just about collected enough clues to seal another.

Michael succeeded in defeating the monsters, at the cost of his physical health. He hadn't travelled far before his stamina completely ran out and he was Lost in Time and Space.

With the clues he had accumulated on his own and the tome which had been given to him by Michael, Dr. Lee succeeded in closing a gate which had opened at The Black Cave.

It wasn't long before Darrell was also in The Plateau of Leng. He saw some fellow travellers, approached them and began to question them. When they removed their cloaks, he was driven insane by a combination of their inhuman appearance and an unexpected attack by a Dark Young.

The Terror Level in Arkham was steadily increasing with each passing moment, and time was running out.

Upon recovering at the hospital, Michael decided to enter R'yleh at The Woods, deciding it would be best to simply close all the gates to stop the threat. His last thought was, "What was that?" He never knew.

Carolyn Fern then became part of the investigative team.

After a long, hard struggle, Mandy was finally able to seal The Dreamlands at The Unnameable and put an end to the cultists' disturbing of the dead. Darrell recovered his senses, patiently collected more clues and, once again entered the Plateau of Leng on The Unvisited Isle.

The doctor and Carolyn were spending much time at The Train Station in an attempt to collect clues or unique items, with The General Store and The Curiosity Shoppe closed.

Dr. Lee had four consecutive encounters that would have allowed him to move to another location and have an additional encounter. I decided against it, until the fourth time. At The Newspaper, he traded in six toughness worth of monster trophies for twelve clues and set off to join Darrell in the sealing of the last two gates.

Amanda had steadily been collecting clues. Just as she garnered her seventh, a gate opened at The Historical Society and upon grabbing her eighth, Hastur awoke upon the opening of a gate at The Graveyard.

The investigators had enough firepower to destroy a lesser god, but Hastur was just too powerful and succeeded in conquering Arkham.

Notes:

I rolled either one or two on seven of the first nine checks for Disturbing the Dead. Final Terror level eight.

Two Headlines -- Murderer at Large and Murder in the Museum -- were responsible for four doom tokens.

At a -8, Mandy was only able to fight the first round: Lamp at +5, +3 fight and eight clue tokens.

Darrell lasted only two rounds, failing both luck checks, giving Dr. Lee his Tommy Gun after the first failure and taking The Lamp from Mandy.

The Dr. and Mandy lasted six rounds and Carolyn was devoured when her luck was 5 at a -5.

Classic! Arkham as it is meant to be.

Brian

Darrell succeeded in gaining a spell by sneaking past a gigantic eye, but he was so frightened by the experience that he dropped a clue.

Just an addition.

Carolyn and Dr. Lee were in the train station.
I may have said they were in the newpa

On the fourth such, I moved him to The Newspaper, where he traded in six toughness worth of monster trophies for twelve clues and was also in the OW when the awakening occurred.
