I am running a charity auction on Boardgamegeek next week to help a little girl named Cici Fischer. I don’t know the Fischer family personally, but Cici’s dad, Matt Fischer is on BGG (mfischer). I was very touched when I read about this tragedy, and wanted to help. I am hoping to make this one of the biggest charity auctions ever on BGG.

In October 2008, at 11 months old, Cici choked on a piece of diced canned fruit. Even though her mom did CPR right away and called 911, Cici got an anoxic brain injury, which means that her brain was deprived of oxygen and parts of her brain died. She is now severely disabled. Her parents are hoping that a range of treatments, including sessions in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, will help. They have two other children: a son, Max, and Cici’s twin sister Penny. You can read about the family on their blog: http://colofisch.blogspot.com/

I have gotten great donations from online game stores. Now I am asking the same of the BGG community. Could you please consider donating a game or two (can be new or used) or even other items such as DVDs or video games? The winning bidder will pay for shipping costs.

You don't have to email me in advance; you can simply add the game on to the geeklist I will create.

I wanted to announce this in advance before a new math trade started. I will probably put the geeklist up on Monday the 11th and it will run for a week.

So far we have donations from Gateplay Games ($25 gift certificate), Fair Play ($30 gc), Eagle Games ($50 gc), Mayday Games ($25 gc), Get Your Fun On (fsumarc) ($50 store credit), Thoughthammer (a $50 gc and a $25 gc), Wargame Depot will donate a copy of Shifting Sands, Blue Panther Games will donate Duck Duck Boom, Boards & Bits will donate 3 copies of Galactic Destiny, Martin Wallace (Warfrog) will donate limited edition signed copies Waterloo and After the Flood, and Cool Stuff Inc. and Gamer's Armory will donate games. And those are just the places that have gotten back to me in less than 24 hours!

I know a lot of people are doing some spring cleaning; please consider donating at least one of those unwanted games to the Auction for Cici. I know our community is capable of amazing generosity.
Carol

I'll see what I can put together by then. Thanks for setting this up.

I know you're taking on a lot already by setting this up, but would you mind sending out GM's to those of us who've replied? Keeping track of this sort of thing isn't necessarily my strong suit and I'd hate to have forgotten about it.

I just logged in and found this thread! My family and I are completely overwhelmed by all of the amazing help being offered. Thank you all so much for your generosity!

At the risk of embarrassing her, let me just say that Carol is a really incredible person. I didn't even know her before posting a brief comment about Cici's accident on another thread. That she is willing to go to so much effort to help my family is very special.

I'm very much looking forward to the auction. I've got some of my games ready to add.

It can't be said enough: Thank you again to all of you.

Matt

I'll donate some good stuff. Maybe we should put out a requests list of some sort. I don't know if it would be better to put in a copy of Java or Union Pacific.

Here's a thought, though. I bet this auction will end up being 7+ pages, with lots of games, lots of bids, and lots of comments. On top of that, there will be a ton of different sellers, and maybe different terms. I for one am willing to combine shipments, and I won't charge shipping. So what we will end up with is a huge mess, where it's difficult to find what you are looking for, and you will have to repeatedly click through multiple pages to find what you are bidding on. Also, you might have some really nice stuff hidden at the tail end. At least in a large math trade you only have to click through all the pages once or twice. Maybe it would be a good idea to split this auction up so that each one has 1-2 pages of items. It would probably make it run a lot smoother.
