The Society will hold its 28th AGM on 9/5/2009 at the Senior Officer Mess, 6/F Caine House, Old Wing, Police HQ, Aresenal Street, Wanchai. We have about 65 members now.

Last year, we have a very successful 27th AGM with over 40 people in attendance and the usual excellent curry followed by the entertaining annual auction.

This year, with our increased membership and good turnout, we have a very healthy and profitable year and will likely to continue our annual subscription at HK$50 per year. Besides, we are planning to start the first rounds of several competitions at the AGM, right after the auction. So far, tentative schedules for our AGM as follows:

(1) Confirmed Events and schedules at AGM

Game setup from 12:30 pm onwards
Curry lunch (1:30 pm)
AGM (2:00 pm)
Auction
Prize presentation for Command & Colors Ancients
Boardgame Competition and DBMM Competition.
Starting 1st round of competitions, likely to have the following 3 competitions:
Memoir '44 boardgame competition
15mm DBR miniatures competition
Advanced Squad Leader boardgame competition

Should we cannot complete the competitions within the AGM, we shall continue them in the future meetings.

So mark down the 9/5/2009 the AGM date on your Daily

(2) Lots of activity at this year's AGM:

(a) DBR 120 competition:

All the official and commercial set DBR Army lists can be used. Players need to bring their own army although there will be a spare "The Last Samurai army" (with pre-determined army list) in case you need one to participate this competition.

It is a knock-out competition. 120AP instead of 100 AP (but cost of general is normal to simplify matters, e.g. C in C Lancers (F) cost 31 pts). Using a single command and only one general. Normal cost of the general applies and divide all minima and maxima by 3, rounding up to the nearest whole element. Please bring terrain (1 hill and 1 wood) and tablecloth as well. Condensed Scale will be used.

We shall play on a 3' by 3' table.

Terrain selection:
Likely to be pre-set by the Umpire but is open to any suggestion. There will be two trophies in case there are 8 or more participants. Only one trophy in case there are 7 or less participants.
So far, it is likely that the following 6 wargamers will join this competition:
Cheung Kar Fai, Douglas Thomson, Herbert Wong, James Cheung, Neil Burnett, Tony Matthews

(b) Memoir'44 Competition:
It is a knock-out competition. Although we already have 5 members (i.e. Lawrence Ho, Andrej Cierpicki, James Cheung, Rowan Hunter, Frederick Lai) confirmed that they will bring their copies, cold other members having this game bring along their copy as this game is very popular among members? There will be two trophies in case there are 8 or more participants. Only one trophy in case
there are 7 or less participants.

So far, it is likely that the following 13 wargamers will join this competition:
Andrzej Cierpicki, Cheung Kar Fai, Chris Mackreth, Christopher Chu, Frederick Lai, James Bishop, James Cheung, Jerome Lai, Lawrence Ho, Nick Alter, Rowan Hunter, Thunder Wong, Gerard Prime,

(c) Details of the Advanced Squad Leader Competition
It is a knock-out competition. There will be two trophies in case there are 8 or more participants. Only one trophy in case there are 7 or less participants.
Assuming there are 8 participants, we are talking about playing 3 games in 1 day.

Possible scenarios include:
T16 Strayer's Stray 4 turns
T1 Gavin's Take 6 turns
T2 Puma Prowls 6 turns
T3 Ranger Stronghold 6 turns
T4 SHKLOV’S LABORS LOST 6 turns
T6 The Dead of Winter 6 turns
G35 Going to Church 6 turns
Rally Point 2 RPT 11 Butchers and Bakers 6 turns
Rally Point 2 RPT 13 A Handful of Howdy 6 turns
Rally Point 2 RPT 14 Keitel and Cox 5 turns
Rally Point 2 RPT 13 A Handful of Howdy 6 turns
Rally Point 2 RPT 17 Hetzer Hunter
Rally Point 2 RPT 18 Worker's Settlement No. 8 6 turns

So far, it is likely that the following 6 wargamers will join this competition:
Anthony Leung, Cheng Tai King, Simon Lai, Lai Lap Wan, Lawrence Ho, Li Tai Wah

(3) Curry Lunch Booking
As we needed to book for the Curry Lunch Buffet in advance, the Buffet will be served to those who reserve a place first and those who have not booked in advance will have to wait to see if there are available place for them. There are already 46 registered members and guests coming for the famous curry lunch on that day:

Andrezj Cierpicki (& Louise), Peter Hunt, Lawrence Ho, Herbert Wong, Frankie Li, Ken McKenzie, Henry To (& Gerry Wong), Thunder Wong, Christopher Chu, Philip Ngo, Cheung Kar Fai, Cedric Mauvielle, James Bishop, Lai Lap Wan, Jack Chow (& Fung Lok Fu), Ken Chan (& his wife), Anthony Leung, David White, Lawrence Hung, Nick Alters (& Tina), Tony Matthews, Li Tai Wah, James Cheung, Simon Lai, Chris Mackreth (& Mark Steacy), Douglas Thompson, Ken Somerville, Herman Ng, Neil Burnett, Derek Gould, Vincent Chan, Rowan Hunter, Steve Gardner, Cheng Tai King, Tony Lee, Frederick Lai, Jerome Lai, Eric Leung, Gerard Prime, Glen Haley

(4) Auctions News
(a) Herbert Wong of Dragon Painting Services (DPS) confirmed that DPS will donate some painted figures to be auctioned at the AGM to subsidise the Society's operations as in previous years. Thanks again to our life members Herbert Wong and Tony Lee for their generousity and support to the Society and the Hong Kong Wargames Hobby. Last year, we have raised more than HK$4,000 from their donation. I have been told that this year donation might include some 15mm Flames of War Stuffs.

(b) Basic rules of the auctions
From past experience, the final selling price of stuff sold at HKSW auction is lower than that selling at eBay.

Firstly, you have to list your reserve price (minimum price)

Secondly, it is natural to sell things related to history, wargames, boardgames, fantasy, etc. as we are a Society of wargamers.

Thirdly, if you want to attract members interest, you can send me a list of your stuff with the reserve price so that I can send them to the members before AGM.

Fourthly, you can sell the stuff at listed price without going through the auction procedures on that day on a first come first serve or discretionary basis or you can have them sell at the auction. It's up to you.

Finally, you are responsible to dispose of all your unsold items. The Society will return them to you on that day if they are unsold.

I suggest you have some ten dollars and twenty dollar notes readily available as changes.

(c) Other auction items
It is likely that James Bishop might sell some of his books, computer games, collectible figures, small and large armies. I am also selling some boardgames.

(5) Other games organised by members
(a) 15mm DBMM (organiser: Herman Ng)
Herman Ng's Arab army will play against Philip Ngo's Vikings

(b) Boardgame (organiser: Eric Leung)
Eric is organising a boardgame session

(c) Clash of Monarch (organiser: Henry To)
Henry To will have a trial game session with his friends.

Please let me know in case you are organising any game on that day.

Kindly let me know which competitions you would like to join if I have missed your name above for administration reason.
