Like most I give my 8 year old son a weekly allowence. Normally he saves it up for a couple weeks and buys some random toy, usually Legos or Nerf guns. To my surprise the other day at Best Buy he seen Halo Interactive Strategy Game and wanted to spend his money to get it. I knew he wanted it and I had planned on buying it for him someday anyway. Much to the dismay of my wife I was as excited as he was and we purchased it. This is where the story starts.

I was happy he made his first game purchase, but it was late so we opened the shrink and glanced at the compononts, I grabed the rule book to look over and he went up to play with it in his room before bed. I figured he would play with it as a toy for a bit then go to sleep. About an hour later he came downstairs to tell me he had punched out the counters, applied the stickers, opened all the cards, organized them and placed them in ziplock bags.

I have never prompted him to do this, I don't even know why he had ziplock bags in his room. My wife called me a geek, but it was a proud moment. Now if I can just get him to read the rules himself.

I think the game comes with some extra baggies, like most do.

Back on topic, if my son did that, it would bring a small tear to my eye and a "That's mah boy..."

That's beautiful, man. You've got a real budding gamer. Or budding obsessive-compulsive. Either way, awesome.

all the parts came in sealed bags, no ziplocks. I shuffled through the pieces before he took it up. It wouldn't be as good of a story if it came with the bags

As long as it was just GAME PIECES in the ziplock bags, everything's great!

Running and 8-year-old dope ring. The only way he's going to be able to afford his gaming habit now anyway.

"I learned it by watching you OK?!"

I'm just picturing a scene in a few years...

[i]Dad, I'm really sorry...
What happened son?
I know you always told me to use protection but last night I forgot, I was careless and reckless.
Oh, what happened
I'm sorry, I spilt a can of coke onto the Battlelore board.
Let this be a lesson to you son, always use perspex.
