Some of the games were gifts; others I bought thinking I'd try them out and get rid of them if I didn't like them. Accidentally I ended up amassing a closet full of games (I have about 90, including those I listed).

That has happened periodically over the years. Every ten or fifteen years, I purge my "collection" of every game I don't intend or expect to play--and sometimes that leaves me with just two or three.

The collection is always unintentional, in that I never plan to buy a bunch of games and keep them. I buy to try them out. I don't like owning games that aren't being played, especially if I don't have much hope of playing them.

Yeah, but it might still deserve to be played.

I think my wife is concerned that Mr Jack is more the sort of game I'd ask her to play in bed.

I bought Hive for my wife and I to play on our new deck--and it's just about warm enough now that we can start doing that (when it's not raining). So, I'll hafta hit her up for a game when she's not too busy gardening one of these weekends. (I bought the Mosquito expansion too, in hopes we'll like the game and play it a lot.)

I'm surprised that Quoridor is getting notably more votes than Pylos and Quarto. All three were gifts from my mom, and they've been sitting in shrinkwrap for a number of years. I've read good things about Quarto! and so-so things about Pylos, but next to nothing about Quoridor (though it's the most interesting-looking to me).

Definitely try Quoridor. I think it's great. And even if you don't like it, it'll probably take 15 minutes or less to open it up, read the instructions, and finish your first game.

I voted based on what I would like to play:

Quoridor
For the People
Hive (the only one I have played, loved, and can't get my husband to play!)

Thurn & Taxis has always intrigued me, but I didn't vote for it.

We have Mr. Jack and though excellent, I can't get my husband to play it anymore. He figured out (what he thinks is ) a sure fire strategy to win on both sides and is no longer interested/challenged by it.

Well, actually I don't have an opponent for the wargames; if I did play any of 'em, it'd be solo.

Also, I have a PBEM game of A House Divided going right now, so I've got my Civil War fix for the time being.

I bought For the People on eBay several years ago. I'd never heard of it, but I'd been hearing great things about We the People, and I've always been drawn to the Civil War, so I just had to grab a copy. I suspect it's an early edition (it's the AH version) with some bugs (I haven't looked into the details).

Dude, you have to try Fields of Honor. It is a really great American War for Independence game. The rules are simple and it really gives a great feel for 18th century warfare.

Oh well, if it is anything like the AWI version it should be outstanding!
