Pretty aren't they?

I've modified the original BSW Dominion coins and added color. If you want them, I've uploaded the files and instructions to the File queue. They should be available soon. I've enclosed the readme.txt accompanying them to answer most questions.

Enjoy,
Ptarth

Update:
They were finally approved:

Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good Morning,
Congratulations on your purchase of this Brettspielwelt (BSW) Dominion Coin Card
Graphics Modification. This is a collection of three files that change the
default coins for Dominion on BSW from blah to awesome (awesome defined herein
as gold, silver, and bronze respectively).

Enjoy,
Ptarth

Version 1.0 5/25/09

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------
Installation Overview
-----------------------------------------------------------
To install this Brettspielwelt Dominion Coin Card Graphics Modification you'll
need to overwrite your current BSW Dominion files. You may wish to make a
complete copy of your original files in case you want to switch back later or
something goes wrong.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Brettspielwelt Dominion Coin Card Graphics Modification Files
-----------------------------------------------------------
This readme.txt file should be accompanied by three files:

geld1_gross.jpg
geld2_gross.jpg
geld3_gross.jpg

These are the three files that should be copied over your original graphics files.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Locating your BSW Software Folder
-----------------------------------------------------------
For Windows XP users, your BSW folder is located:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\BSW\

For Windows Vista:
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\BSW\

For Macintosh (10.4.11)
/Applications/BrettspielWelt

-----------------------------------------------------------
Locating your BSW Dominion Files
-----------------------------------------------------------
For BSW using the default language (German), the Dominion files are located:
...\BSW\dominionPics\

For English language users:
...\localized\en\images\Dominion

For other language users replace the with your two letter language code.

For other combinations of language, operating system, and nondefault
installations, you'll have to find them yourself. Methods of doing this would
be to search for "geld1_gross.jpg" or to examine your shortcut to BSW and see
what file path it uses.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Installation Instructions: Short Version
-----------------------------------------------------------
To install, copy the three graphics files over your current
Dominion graphics files.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Installation Instructions: Long Version
-----------------------------------------------------------
Step 1. Locate your BSW folder
Step 2. Locate your Dominion folder
Step 3. Copy the three graphics files to your Dominion folder.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Troubleshooting
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: I placed the files in the directory, but there is no change on BSW when I play
Dominion.
A: The files weren't placed in the correct location. Try finding all your Dominion
directories and replacing all of the geld#_gross.jpgs. BSW might be using a folder
other than the expected one.

Q: The files worked the first time, but they've returned to normal.
A: Most likely BSW updated the graphics for Dominion. If the cards haven't changed,
you should be able to reinstall and have everything work. If they have changed
you'll have to acquire or create your own updated files.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
History
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These files were the result of a thread on BGG that mentioned the possibility of
changing BSW's graphics files. A poster mentioned that they had changed their
cards, but didn't provide them. A quick visit to the Dominion photo gallery for
some inspiration provided examples of the color cards and a recipe for using
Gimp to edit the original files to taste.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Creation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The graphics files are standard jpegs. The toughest part was realizing they were
local and accessible. To edit them, open them in a graphics editing program,
change them, and save them. I don't know what happens if file sizes change too
much or the dimensions of the images change.

To create the color permutation I used Gimp, a free graphics editor. Photoshop
or any similar program will also work.

To change the colors using Gimp, version 1.
Select the entire coin using the selection tools.
You'll need to zoom in and fine tune the selection.
Paste the coin as a new layer.
Open the Color/Colorize Tool

For Silver: Decrease saturation, increase lightness, and "twiddle" hue
For Bronze: Increase saturation, decrease lightness, and change hue
For Gold: Increase saturation, decrease lightness, and change hue

Lastly, extract the number from the original image, and place it on top of your
newly colored coin.

To change the colors using Gimp, version 2.
Find an image that contains copies of the coins in a suitable image size and
quality. Copy that image over the image files used by BSW.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Credits
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Donald X. Vaccarino for creating Dominion.

Brettspielwelt for being such a great place to play games. Especially a place
that won't get angry for anyone modifying their images so that even more people
would be excited and happy to play games using their wonderful service.

Rio Grande Games for having BSW host Dominion (and footing the bill).

jung jinsup (jinsup) at BGG for his color Dominion coins and a guide to doing the
initial manipulations which I paraphased, edited, and included above.

rakel77 & mementomari for beta testing the files to insure they work and it
wasn't just my imagination.

Random BGG poster who mentioned they had edited their files. I couldn't find you
again when I tried to look, but thanks for the inspiration. Also, if you had
posted your files, I wouldn't have had to do any of this.

gregF for the Macintosh installation directory.

Disclaimer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I own nothing referenced herein. Most of the words used in this file are either
trademarked or copyrighted or some company wishes to trademark or copyright them,
this includes the color black. These files are provided without any warranty or
guarantee of any sort. Permission was granted to create and distribute these by
Alexander Zbiek of BSW and Donaldx creator of Dominion. Jay is really busy, so I
didn't think I should harass him with this trivial matter. The use and
creation of these files arguably falls underneath the Fair Use clause of
arbitrary legal ownership of everything laws, but that's only where those laws
are applicable, which is subject to change at any point in time and without
notification.

That being said, I'm pretty sure no one is going to care and the files are
harmless.

Lastly, if your dog gets sick, that's not my fault either.

Why did this simple readme (extract files to Dominion directory) have to be so long?
Mostly because it was funny.
Ciao.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The file queue is pretty slow, so I went ahead and added the pictures to my personal gallery to download individually. Click on the files to go to my private gallery and save them to the location provided in the instructions above.

Do not save the images on this page, they are scaled incorrectly, you need to go to the gallery, by clicking on them.

Save as geld1_gross.jpg
Save as geld2_gross.jpg
Save as geld3_gross.jpg

I was going to make a post like this too (maybe I was your inspiration to do this? ), but since you did an awesome job I'll just add on to your topic if you don't mind. The colored coins really do improve Dominion and I found they make the face to face game pale in comparison.

I've also taken to modifying the BSW Dominion a little further with the following:

Save this as "status1.jpg"

Save this as "status2.jpg"

No doubt everyone made the mistake of clicking on the green action button BEFORE they played their actions at some point when they starting playing Dominion on BSW, or clicking on the green buy button before they actually bought something, thinking that you needed to click on that before carrying out an action or buying a card. This modification should prevent you from ever clicking on the icon without wanting to, since it clearly states that you're finishing whatever step you're on, and the arrow is colored red as a further precaution to get you to stop and think.

Hope someone else finds it useful.

By the way:

You don't have to copy the old files before you overwrite them. If you want the old ones back, just delete the new pics and next time you enter a Dominion room on BSW there are the old coins again.

Oh my.

So you could get a pinup picture of Elvira for the witch graphics.

Oh!
And you could replace the abstract blue/red/green/orange arrows on the status picture/library with a blue arrow with the word "Discard" inside it.

And the green arrow with "Choose" or "Select" or "Keep" in it.

And an orange arrow with "Discard" in it.

The blue/green thing confused me quite a bit at first. Is blue good or bad?

Thieves, libraries, adventurers.

Nice work!

Although you kinda overdid the instructions a bit. I think it could have flown just as well with "Here's three new files. Replace old files. Enjoy."

FYI: On the Mac (10.4.11 if it matters), the instructions for finding the Dominion folder are correct. Mac programs are loose about where you install them, but I believe the default is /Applications/BrettspielWelt

Mateui:
Those are very pretty. I think I'm going to steal them.
My biggest problem is that occasionally the game lags and I click again and accidentally end my turn. Sadly, graphics changes won't help that.

Spielfrosch:
Good to know. As an aside, the downloading time for new BSW games is really lengthy for the amount of data transferred.

maxo-texas:
Those are some good ideas. I'll see about making some of those changes. In regards to your idea about Elvira, I'm working on a complete Star Wars mod change for Dominion on BSW. I'm not sure I'll get to release it to the public due to copyright issues, but for private personal use I think its okay.

They are too long. If you see the ending, you'll understand.

Indeed. Do you mind if I swipe your instructions and add them to the above?

My previous ideas on correct Mac installation procedures were:
1. Put Mac on floor.
2. Put feet on top of Mac.
3. Buy Windows XP PC.
4. Install using WindowsXP instructions.
For some reason, I didn't get very good success rates using these instructions. Go figure, eh?

We got 5 Intrigue cards today along with a new Dominion background. Unfortunately I didn't like the background too much since I found its lack of contrast kind of headache-inducing, so I fiddled around with it and viola, here's the new background I'm using that lets the cards stand out more. Feel free to use it too if the current new one irritates you as it did me.

Save as bg2.jpg in your BSW Dominion folder.
