Bob, Gloria, Mandy, Jenny
vs.
Yog

The moment they heard the news, the investigators sprang into action.
Bob abandoned his shopping trip and immediately ran head-long into the Graveyard, brushed past a ghoul and directly into the Dreamlands, in possession of an Elder Sign, he had obtained months earlier for just such on occasion.

He hardly took notice of Erica Carlyle packing her belongings, and did not realize in the least that she was leaving town.

As his eyes adjusted to the dark, the stone face before him revealed the deepest secrets of the Dreamlands. The information was too much for his pysche to endure, and he was devoured.

On her way to the Curiosity Shoppe, Jenny caught a glimpse of Bob's frenzied behavior as he burst out of the General Store, but soon forgot about him, buying an Elder Sign of her own.

Harvey Walters rose from his desk, collected his meagher belongings and joined the investigation.

There was no one who could possible help the investigators when another gate opened at The Unnameable. This one lead to R'yleh and was protected by a Hound of Tindalos.

Mandy entered the Dreamlands at Graveyard wondering what had become of Bob, while Jenny destroyed the Hound with a vial of Holy Water and entered R'yleh.

While in the Black Cave, Gloria ignore a child's cries for help, convinced it was an ambush and was barred from Rivertown.

In Harvey's first encounter, he met an old wise man in the Woods, who filled him with much information about what the goals and aspirations of the cultists were and also how to effectively deal with them.

No sooner had the old man wandered away than Harvey was drawn into the Abyss by the opening of a gate completely engulfing him.

In an ill-advised move, the cultists began the Festival, making themselves and byakee tougher but making it possible for the investigators to begin sealing gates.

Harvey is immediately confronted by a ghost and is forced to use a small part of his knowledge to sneak past it.

(No weapons, F/W at 0/3) (Used one clue -- six)

Gloria became tainted, but was able to gain more skill in the form of lore.

A gate ripped open at the Black Cave and another Hound of Tindalos burst into the Historical Society and attacked Gloria, who was extremely hard pressed to defeat it, much of her knowledge disappearing in her panic to survive.

(Failed shrivelling 0-4, used two clues) (One more clue to defeat Hound
(1-9)

All of the investigators in other worlds returned at the same time, with Harvey casting his Find Gate spell. Jenny, with her Elder Sign, and Harvey both succeeded in sealing, but Mandy used the wrong incantation and failed. (0-5)

Attempting to prevent Mandy from bringing the investigators closer to succeeding in their mission, a shoggoth and ghoul lunged at her. Surprisingly unphased, considering her previous failure, Mandy destroyed the ghoul, sneaked past the shoggoth and sealed the gate.

At this point, the cultists picked up the pace and the battle became more hostile on the part of both parties.

Harvey rescued David Packard from a pursuing beast and, in gratitude, he joined the investigation, enchanted jewelry preventing David from having to take Harvey to the hospital, which he checked into voluntarily shortly thereafter.

Gloria continued to struggle against the determined forces of evil. She used the rest of her hard-acquired knowledge to defeat a witch.

(No physical weapon, fight of three, -3 witch) Three clues plus fight skill. One hit in three rounds)

A huge explosion rocked Unnameable, but the seal held. Another witch and a nightgaunt were released in the Merchant District Streets.

The zombie, which had moved into French Hill from the Graveyard and then Rivertown earlier, then attacked Gloria, with Mandy sneaking out of the Graveyard, past the shoggoth and into the path of a maniac. Both the girls easily despatched their tormentors.

Before Mandy had a chance to catch her breath, a gate opened at the Black Cave and a Star Spawn cascaded out of the opening and attempted to overwhelm Mandy. Sunny and clear weather put her at a distinct disadvantage and she was not only unable to sneak away (0-3), but she was driven insane and carted off to Arkham Asylum.

Jenny entered Merchant District to do battle, eliminating the witch, but getting dragged, kicking and screaming into R'yleh again, this time at the Black Cave.

A gate opened at the Witch House, with a passage to The Plateau of Leng, a warlock standing guard. Harvey returned to the Woods, where he found an axe and Gloria entered the Science Building, where she was given a much needed blessing by a professor who recognized her need written all over her face.

When Jenny returned, it was to face a byakee, which she killed, a shoggoth and a ghost, the latter two of which she sneaked past, at the cost of the last of her clues (three). Unable to sneak past them a second time, she was driven insane and woke up in the asylum.

Her sanity almost gone, Gloria began finding excuses to stay in the Science Building, going so far as to begin cleaning erasers. The chalk dust seemed to her to have a different quality and she was told what she had found was Powder of Ibn Ghazi, which she gladly hoarded away.

(To be continued) (Long session, and I've run out of time).

Since this is pretty long, I'll continue it in a separate box.

Harvey had joined Gloria in the Science Building, having given the professors his gate trophy for study in exchange for some clues to help him accomplish his task.

As he was about to travel to the Lodge to obtain still further knowledge, the Southside Strangler struck and he was forced to alter his plans. Because of unfavorable conditions, he was unable to get right there and stopped in the Miskatonic University Streets, having seen a shoggoth across the way in French Hill.

Further to the north, Mandy had been drawn into Yuggoth at Hibb's, without enough information to complete her task.

Before Harvey could continue on his way from Miskatonic University Streets, the nightgaunt, which had given Gloria fits, swept down on him, as well, dragging him into Plateau of Leng. While there, he discarded his axe, found while exploring the Woods earlier, and obtained an Obsidian Statue in its place.

It was not meant to be, however. Harvey was forced to expend previously- absorbed knowledge in order to prevent being Lost in Time and Space, and, thus, devoured. As he left the Other World, he no longer knew enough to seal the gate.

Jenny finally elimiated that pesky nightgaunt and after much time wasted trying to avoid destruction, Gloria was finally able to enter the Asylum.

In rapid succession, Erich Weiss, Professor Armitage and the Messenger all left town as a result of the Southside Strangler and an escape of inmates from the asylum.

Gloria dealt with the lone maniac downtown. Seeing that she was vulnerable to a possible attack from the Star Spawn in Easttown, Jenny, came forward to deal with it, having passed earlier on yet another Elder Sign in order to purchase an Enchanted Blade. She was soundly thrashed and, she, too, wound up in the hospital, the determination of the cultists and their pets rising with every passing minute.

As Mandy was passing out in Yuggoth, Richard Upton Pickman, was packing his bags at Ma's preparing to leave Arkham for good.

The Star Spawn indeed moved . . . into Rivertown, Gloria keeping a low profile, hoping not to be noticed.

The investigators' job got even more difficult when the cultists succeeded in opening a gate at the Science Building, but the gug did not stay and slithered back into the caverns. All this activity, however, caused Ruby Standish and Tom Mt. Murphy to get out of Dodge.

As Jenny entered that newly-opened gate in an attempt to free it up so that they could continue to deal with the scientists, Harvey and David Packard entered the Southside. They cornered the Strangler and David put the final collar on him.

Having fulfilled his obligation to Harvey for having saved his life earlier, David called it a day, having had enough excitement for one lifetime, and moved away from Arkham, without so much as a handshake or packing a bag.

Gloria was able to suck the Star Spawn into her Lamp of Alhazred, but moments later, two shoggoths descended upon her. Apparently, Gloria had been a little more loopy while in the Science Building than she thought and had actually scooped chalk dust into a vial. When she spread it on the first shoggoth, there was no effect (0-11). She was able to draw it into the lamp with the Star Spawn, however. As she was distracted by the first shoggoth, however, the second blind-sided her and knocked her for another loop, this one physical and she awoke in the hospital. (2-7, no clues)

As Jenny explored Another Dimension, after having entered from the Science Building, she was grasped and instantly devoured by a Dark Young.

Ashcan Pete collected Duke crawled out from under the pier and started his investigations, almost immediately after the cultists launched The Great Ritual. They had hardly started before Mandy and Harvey put an end to it.

A Plague of Insects then struck Arkham and Ali Kafour returned to Egypt. Yet another monster surge convinced Sir William Britton to return to his native land, as well.

Harvey followed Jenny's example and dove into Another Dimension at the Science Building.

The lone-remaining shoggoth attacked Mandy while Pete, having obtained $5 from the City of Arkham as his portion of the reward for the capture of the Strangler entered the Curiosity Shoppe and purchased the last Elder Sign in stock. Mandy failed to sneak and was knocked out, losing valuable clues, which would have allowed her to seal.

Harvey didn't wait around to find out what that noise was, he slipped in to the shadows, as it slithered past. He returned to the Science Building shortly after, but his experiences left him a little shaky, and he failed to seal the gate.

Another monster surge at The Witch House produced another Star Spawn, which immediately launched its full force directly at Gloria. The last of the allies, Anna Kaslow left town, leaving only Duke, ever loyal to Ashcan Pete.

The King of Cards drives off the warlock, and the Star Spawn drives Gloria insane.

(Another Break) (Ran out of time here, too) (Will continue)

After his close call in Another Dimension and his initial failure, Harvey succeeded in sealing the gate at the Science Building, once again making that building accessible to the investigators.

Pete had entered the gate at Indy Square and, without a glitch, sealed it, bringing the investigators within reach of their ultimate goal.

Harvey once again gave the scientists pieces of the gate trophy he had taken and was almost ready to seal the last gate. Stopping in the Woods, he was accosted by the Sheldon Gang and only saved himself from a more severe beating than the one he had by warding off their blows with the Obsidain Statue he had gotten in exchange for the axe, which he had found in . . . the Woods.

Mandy was knocked unconscious by the Ctholian and was forced to begin rebuilding her supply of clues, having had enough until its attack.

Given his choice between two Masks, Harvey chose Mask of the Three Fates and felt the power of Sister Mary's special ability flood through every fiber of his being.

(This was a hard decision, since Mike McGlen was also an option. I chose Sister Mary, because Harvey was toast if he had two -3 stamina losses in a row)

Confident that he could not be devoured while in the Other World, he, therefore, attacked and defeated a ghost at Black Cave, entering R'yleh with the idea of destroying Yog once and for all.

While it's true he wasn't devoured, he didn't count on sliding down a barnacled declivity and woke up in the hospital, much the worse for wear.

Mandy went to the Woods shortly after and met the same wise old man that Harvey had come across earlier. He was no more selfish with his knowledge with her than he had been with Harvey and she only delayed long enough to obtain the rifle from Pete and the Lamp of Alhazred from Gloria, after she used it one last time to defeat the zombie.

Mandy confronted both a ghost and a warlock at Unvisited Isle, the need for both weapons apparent to her as she approached, and destroyed them, depleting her sanity to a dangerous level.

(Failed both checks, leaving her with 2/5)

She entered Abyss with more than enough clues to seal (thirteen, once she stopped getting pounded, went to the Science Building, the Woods and killed the warlock) (That netted her eight right there)

Once in Abyss, she had to sneak to quiet the unsettling echoes (two clues). She had no further trouble in the Other World, but was forced to use further knowledge to end the threat. (one more clue)

Synopsis:

Between Bob being devoured with an Elder Sign, Gloria spending six clues to avoid being thrashed, Jenny spending 3/3 clues to prevent being driven insane (and then going insane, anyway), Mandy losing half her clues twice when she had enough to seal, Harvey having to spend that one clue and then sliding down the barnacled slope at the end, I lost the opportunity to seal a gate on six different occasions.

The cultists were deadly serious and did literally everything in their power to realize their ultimate dream. The investigators didn't panic and were every bit as persevering, despite losing two very close friends.
