It was corrected in the 2nd edition, which was over two years ago. Just in case you haven't kept up with the times.

I don't own and have never seen TS in person. Was that coffee cup ring in the upper left on the original board?

The coffee cup ring is on the 1960: The Making of the President gameboard.

I didn't like the art work for the space race but I did like them adding the space shuttle & station to the chart.

Overall I like the layout, but the I do not like the lack of color variety. I think that is one thing that made the old map so appealing, it had a very 80's quality

Oh well, it isn't bad by any means.

*edit* after looking at both boards closely, I think there is too much of a purple tint to the new version. If that purple hue could be moved towards blue a little bit, it would help a lot I would think. Did Mark Mahaffey do the redux of the board? Only reason I say that is that he tends to use a lot of lavender/purple in his maps.

I still don't care for the purple in the flag, but this is vastly improved over the last version IMO.

I like the shading better. I prefer the 20-20 scoring track along the bottom of the first one in this thread.

The new space race track is cool, based on my experience of playing TS with "the eagle has landed" having only happened once, but with the current track I'd say it'll happen more regularly.

Edit: I'm not big on the "coffee ring" on the map though. That could go any time...

Me too.

To be honest, I'd be amazed if any designer could come up with a really visually appealing board for this game. The material simply isn't interesting enough - it's a map of the world and some tracks. That's it. Embellishments on the world map would get lost underneath all the influence boxes. Embellishments on the influence boxes would obscure the important regional colour-coding. Either would probably make the board visually confusing, which would be bad.

So in short, I don't much care what it looks like, but I'll buy it to replace my original so long as it's mounted. Although a long-line scoring track would be a small improvement.

At one point the designers were throwing around the idea that a new edition might sport a few new cards. I assume that's no longer going to happen? And what's with the Chinese Civil War - is that now "official" rules or an "official" variant ... and is the 3US IP at start variant (my personal favourite) going to be "officialised" as well?

I don't think the idea for new cards has been shelved (no news is good news, right?)

The CCW will be optional (it's in the rules, it's on the board) but official.

I believe the additional ip to start for the US will be an official addition, although it might be optional like the CCW variant.

I'm mixed about the additional US ip, but my plays with the CCW have shown it to be very balancing (only 6 games played with CCW, but the trend is promising).

There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow.

If you are looking for alternative map for Twilight Struggle and willing to pay the cost take a look here:

http://www.west2productions.com/Mapology/_NEW/MapB6.html

Cost is $60 possibly with shipping and handling and the link for that is:
http://www.west2productions.com/Mapology/_NEW/Prints.html

On my wish list, but haven't taken the plunge yet.

I just hope this isn't the same map being discussed above. blush

I really like the look of that map, but $60 is far to steep for just a map....and a paper map at that.

Aaaaarrrrggghhhh!!!! The options. I'm really afraid I might end up with the full game. Just need to see the counters. Curse you GMT, oops I mean Red Baron.

GMT wrote:
Today we have added the following new items to our P500 list, all having to do with the upcoming Deluxe Edition of Twilight Struggle. These items will all be printed regardless of P500 totals. We are just giving you guys an option to get discounts for pre-ordering. In addition to the new game, we are providing a variety of upgrade options to give as much flexibility as we can to players who own a previous version of Twilight Struggle. Note that the P500 orders generated for the various upgrade options will determine the print runs for those. We do not intend to keep large stocks on these items – just enough to fill initial orders. So if you want an upgrade kit, please order in advance.

Twilight Struggle Deluxe Edition Retail $55 P500 $38

Twilight Struggle Deluxe Upgrade Kit (Includes Mounted Map, New Card Deck, Rules & Charts, but not the countersheet). For you guys who say “my counters will work just fine, but I want all the other new stuff,” this option is for you. Retail $39 P500 $27

Twilight Struggle Deluxe Mounted Map. This option is for those of you who just want to play your current version on an updated and mounted map. Retail $20 P500 $14

Twilight Struggle Deluxe Countersheet. This is for you guys who want to have the thicker, Euro-style counters to add to your game. Retail $10 P500 $7

Note to Auto-Order Customers: Please note that because these items are all for a new edition of an existing game, we have not created any auto-orders for them. So if you are an auto order customer who would normally have the order created for you on a new game, you’ll need to place an order – or contact the office ladies to place it for you, on any of the above items.

While you’re reading about (and hopefully ordering!) some of the new items on the P500 list, we invite you to take a look at the other most recent additions to the P500 list (listed with their designer and orders to date):
